Looks great....the hair seems to blend right into the scalp....most images I've seen don't do this well....great job!

Nice job overall. Here's the rest of the story with the stuff that makes some artists want to throw the monitor out the 3rd story window in a fit of rage.

I'd probably like to see thicker hair as what you have seems a bit thin, whispy and flat. If she is supposed to look like she just got out of the swimming pool with wet hair then it would be really close. ( just add water! ;> )

But I'm sure you'll be busy tweaking this until it gets there. Seeing the work you've done on the hair guides makes me sense that you're the type that could benefit from an upgrade to the full version of Sasquatch.

man, how did you ever model all those splines to flow like that? Saslite has a limit to how many strands each hair guide can generate. So to get no bald spots really need alot of guides. It drove me nuts managing all those guide layers. Seems like you got it just right. I am just really curious about your method of dealing with those hair guides.

.For the rendered picture, i think you have a bit too much gloss or highlight on her hair, no? But that's a matter of tweaking the saslite parameters and lighting.

Great work. Your model reminds me of UserDelta at the newtek lw forum.

We had Larry Shultz demostrate this at the LightWave Users Group meeting yesterday...Those indivudual hair splines are done with rail extrude (that's what Larry did)....The point count limit is per object. I forget what the limit number is....Larry has some tutorial CDs available for this...

That is really cool

Which tool did you use, there are several out there

I have a model I want to do this too, what did you do to create and form a hair line

How long did it take you to lay out the guides

I was just watching the XSi promotional cd and it takes seconds to layout guides ... select a group of polygons > select hair from selection > a group of hair guides appear on the polygons with a option window full of tweaks as well as all the transform tools still apply ... now that is cool

indeed that would be kewl
Now, getting the heir guides to look like you want is a tedious process in LW.

wish something like shave hair modeler could be integrated somehow....

or convert volume to hair strands (with the volume boundrary as a guide to how the guides should look) - that is like the process larry uses to make guides, only less tedious...

this being my first sased model, i did everything the long way. drew out splines, copied, pasted, tweaked.. i have about 200 guid hairs that i did that with. took me roughly one afternoon to put the guides together. i have 2 layers, one with about 100 splines to draw out the hairline and another layer with another 100 to fill in the head. i used "Spline2Guide" to convert the splines to chains, its free, find it at flay:) another usefull tool is Splinerator, also find at flay and free. you can select a number of polygons and it will draw out guide splines based on some selections, even with drooping to them, really helps a lot to speed up guide building. i'd probably use it next time.

proton: thanks! trying to blend the hair with the scalp took the most work.

Chewey: i was afraid of the wetlook :) was looking to hear that, thanks. will definately work on that.

toonshady: userdelta would be me :)

JVitale: hopefully i could attend the next meeting in LA, with some work to show :) my only problem is transportation, no license, no car, and im in stockton.

thanks all for the input everyone, i really appreciate it.

Then i worked on my demon i stacked with the same problem - arranging guides and wet look...
So i found this solution:
1. Make your guides (i used two sets, one - guides from points of the mesh, second guides from splines)
2. Make low poly copy of your mesh object without face details but offset from original size.
3. Use MD for hair guides, using low poly copy as collision object.
Here this steps (u can see the low poly proxy body in black wire frame).

Eugeny,
You do realize that is just a matter of time before proton asks you for a tutorial for the LW site, right?

I know alot of users would love to see that there... including me!;)

Nice information Eugeny. Getting hair to behave would be a great tutorial to have

Does anyone else here think it would be nice to donate Eugeny some nose geometry for his poor noseless ghoul monster?
