I have some video with sound that I need to animate to.
if I import the video as a texture on a background object, how would I go about being able to hear the audio track? Where could I see the waveform?

In the timeline create a sound track for an object and enable the sound (speaker symbol) in the animation controls. Make sure to set the animation to "All Frames".

Hmmm.
Not doing anything. As I said, I have the video as a material on the background object.
do I need to creat a loud speaker and import the sound track somehow?
I need to animate a bouncing ball along with the words of a song, so I need to be able to hear it as I preview.

ok... now I've found where to import sound, but it tells me that both .wav and .aiff are unkown file formats. What can I do?

nevermind that. Got it working.
But now the sound plays at normal speed while the video is choppy and slow.
I don't know if I can get this to work.

Export the video to a picture serie (In QT or other suitable app as tiff, png whatever) and use the picture serie as background and the original video as soundsource.
Using picture series makes background work almost realtime.

Select the first pict in the pictfolder as material. Go Material > Channel > animate > Calculate.
Then set the framerate corresponding to your scene (25, 30 fps etc)
When calculate pict series the frame rate becomes "1" by default for some reason.

Thanks Lennart now it works like a charm.
I tried to use a movie as a background in a project before but it was so slow that it didn't work, so this tip is very useful.
