View Full Version : Snapping curves. . .
Peace455 09-22-2002, 12:00 AM Hello All
I am currently modeling the Subaru WRX, and I'm following that lovely tutorial I found at this wonderful site.
I'm at the hood of the car, and it's telling me to snap the curves togehter so that they touch, to make the bi-rail sucess ful.
I tried, moving the curve with curve snap on. . . nothing happened
I tried moving Cv's to snap it to the curve, nothing happened. FOr the past 2 hours I've been trying to get this freakin curves to snap together, cause when I perform the bi-rail it creates it but givre me an error message and an invisible bi-rail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, its getting kinda frustration now. . .
going to lay down for a while. . .:surprised
Peace

This is one of these things in Maya which you have to discover first, and say "Why didn't I think of that before!?!" after ;)
So, curve snapping works with the third mousebutton. I.e. to move a CV along a curve, you select the CV, press the curve snapping key, and then third mousebutton-click&drag on top of the curve... et voilą!

I tried that but the CV kept snappin to a point on the same curve.
I'm trying to get the point on one curve to snap to the second curve so that there touching and the bi-rail can do its thing. Is it possible to snap a Cv to another unselected curve?
I'm going tpo try and snap the whole curve to the other whole curve and see what happens.
Peace.
be right back . . .

ALright I've returned and unfortuantely have had no sucess with snapping these 2 Nurbs curves together. I am very lost and don't know what to do right about now. I tried what you suggested but it didn't work or I messed it up.
Is there anyway to snap them together?
thanks for all the help.
Peace:surprised
Not working? Hmmm, maybe I forgot how it was done... gimme a min so I'll try it out myself...
Edit: Works for me, maybe I explained it badly, lemme try again.
1. Select the CV you want to move
2. Change to move-tool
3. Move your cursor on top of the curve you want to snap it to
4. Push down the third mousebutton, and move the mouse somewhat along the curve, and after a few pixels of dragging it should snap into the curve.
5. Now just drag it to either end of the curve
Tell me if it works now :)
Edit2: Oh and another way to snap them together:
1. Go to Edit Point mode
2. Select both curves with shift selecting (This is important! You can't snap to edit points which you can't see!)
3. Now just point snap the end -edit point of the another curve to the another.

and move tool needs to be in World mode, whcih you find in its tool options, then jsut as wt describes, MMB drag on a crv when youve got the thing your moving selcted. or LMB drag the translate widget close to the crv, and clcck again on crv so it will snap (needs to be pretty definite about clickign on the crv, compared to MMB).
