hi, i am painting skin weights on my character, i want to mirror my weights to the other side
my question: do i do this before i start weighting my central joints like the spine and head, then do those central joints?
or do i finish weighting all the central ones, then mirror everything?

logically i think i should mirror my weights, THEN weight my central joints... i want to make sure before i continue...

thanks

You can do it either way, but you'd save some time by just painting one whole half of your char before mirroring. You can mirror the weights of not only pieces of geometry (wraps for the hands, feet, etc) but components as well (the verts or faces on a torso or head).

maya will not always mirror weights over and around the center line correctly.
if you have weighted "accross" the center (ie you have a vert that is weighted to the left AND right joints), you will need to touch them up.

sometimes you get away with it... but always check...

i guess ill just do the legs and arms, mirror them, then do the head and body...

that way theres no repetition, and no mirroring of centre verts... cool

thanks guys

be ready for a million questions since this is my first character...
