View Full Version : Quiet City {WIP Mental Ray}

The aim of this project is to use a maximum mental ray.
But only specifics mental ray shaders.
I've think it from this side, and I want to use shaders like Ocean, Submerge etc...
But Mental Ray (MR) have a lot of shaders and I don't really understand their skills.
And that's why I've created this post. If you know MR and you know what shader or parameter is should use, tell me. :)

At present, I'm working on the water shader... I try to understand the "Ocean" shader's but it is really complicated... Can someone tell me where I could find a help from this shader?

The river is made with:
- An Ocean shader (lume) for bump
- A Falloff for opacity
- A RayTrace for reflection
- A Submerge Shader (lume) for deep effect (enven if we can't really see it)

The Sand with:
- A Falloff for a light self-illumination
- An Ocean shader (lume) for bump
- A Cellular Shader for diffuse

Others:
- Sky is a "Vue d'esprit 4" panorama rendered
- Houses textures made with Photoshop
- A little Fog (20%)

I have see on >this post< (http://www.cgtalk.com/showpost.php?p=1545851&postcount=31) that a "dirt shader" can help me to create foam... but I don't find it... I think you must download it somewhere but where?
This is really important because the limit betwen the water and the sand is very "hard".

I have do a render with a skydome to have a less contrasted render.
I would obtain a fake effect of IG at the base of the batiment... It's not that at all :sad:

7h22 for render
Except if you give me a idea, I won't modify the water shader more.
Now, I'm really searching for a good render and lighting.
