hi there, i'm almost finishing my female complete high-res model, and there is an issue i would like to discuss and eventually as for solutions.

it's the first time i'm going to make a body be nude, so on other ocasions i didnt had the problem of the seams showing up since the zone of the seems would be located under the clothing. But now since it's going to be a nude one, it cant show up the seems. if i texported everything with a huge detail, it wouldnt be much of a problem but it wastes too much memory. I was thinking of working with 4000x4000 for the head texture only so if i had to use the same resulution including the body it woul buum up to something like 20000x20000 which is something i cant afford in terms of memory. so i was thinking of using 4000x4000 for the head and 4000x4000 for the rest of the body. the problem , are the seems. is there anyway to solve that problem? I'm really short on ideas on this one.

Oh yeah, i'm using 3dsmax7 and photoshop(7 or CS).

Please help.

or buy more memory.

And here I was thinking I was using high resolution maps.

Go for 6000 for the head and max 8000 for the body in two separate materials/channels.

thanx for the repplies.

or buy more memory.

Jpg's makes the renders slower and more CPU intensive(at least is what i have been told).

I have 2 gigabytes of Dual-channel memory. I dont think i need more.

Then im thinking of another way, but i dunno if it is the best one, which is to separate body parts by id's and with different mapping coordinates, but i wonder if this can get a real nightmare or not(not only for the seems but also for the mapping). For example, cilindrical mapping for the head, for the arms, for the body and for the legs, each part with its own id, set up in simmetry. I wonder if the weld function will make the seems look good.(dunno about the arms to body or legs to body connection tought.

Never heard of that. JPGs are smaller, why can it be render slower. For stills are 100% okay with jpg.

JPG files are compressed and are slower because of decompressing when rendering. It's not as noticeable on lower resolution files.

i'm in a similar situation. i have unwrapped the model and all uv's are in one map. texporter only does 4k x 4k so that is what i have been using. this alone is absolute murder going between max and PS. i am gonne buy more ram. render time is fine, i can have a smoke, but saving in PS and seeing it in max takes forever. maybe i will try that 6k and 8k thing when i get more ram.
