View Full Version : First After-Effects animation
toenexx 03-12-2005, 08:47 AM Hello everyone. I am a freshman in college and I just finished my first After-Effects animation with my roommate for our drawing II and advanced computer apps finals. Here is the link:

Just click on the rotating tv.
The whole animation was done with vine charcoal. Different animation techniques were used as well: 2d hand drawn and digital animation.
Anyways, any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi!
I really liked the charcoal look of your animation. Have you seen the animated work of William Kentridge? Might be an inspiration for you.
I liked the way you used the 3d possibillities of AE and the overall look as well. One thing I didn't like was the venitian blinds(is that what it's called?) effect. I think it looks cheap when an effect is used that looks so computer/AE-perfect, to me that doesn't work with rough look of charcoal. You might want to adjust the camera movement in some places where it changes speed or direction abruptly in mid-motion... or you don't want that, but I do...
I think it is a complex first project with focus on the story and I think it is great that you tell it in such a slow everyday life pace.
Good luck!

A direct link to the thread is always better than a loading page...(just an FYI). You will get more feedback that way...:)
WHOA...especially for a 96MB movie...definitely direct link and size.
I'm downloading now...
I am a big fan of charcoal and am looking into doing some charcoal animations in the future so I was intrigued by this. The story seemed pretty nonexistent and some shots like the TV falling dragged on a bit long. IMO you could have taken advantage of the charcoal a bit more; it seems as if the After Effects manipulation is a bit heavy-handed, although in some parts the 3-D effect works well. Liked the music a lot, but the sound quality overall was poor and distracting. Not bad overall, but keep it up and your next one will be leaps and bounds above this one (but find a way to cut that file size!).
