does anyone know how i can apply a bitmap (a .GIF file, non-interlaced) to apply to a square plane. Ex:

http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/car_tutorial/car1.asp

i can make the shape, bring up the material editor, choose bitmap, but when i go to apply it, the apply button is greyed out (inactive). is there something i'm doing wrong? i know that the image isn't too big, because it's only at 512x512, and i set the drivers to support that high. If there's another way of doing this, please tell me.

Do you have the object selected?

And just to make sure, you're supposed to click on the "Diffuse" channel and select a Bitmap material-node, and then you apply. I don't know if, by any chance, you're trying to apply just a Bitmap that isn't part of a Standard material..

I'm sorry if my answer sounded.. patronizing.. was most definitely not meant as such.

I still remember my troubles with the mat editor back at first.. eegads :).. it was.. tricky at first. It makes complete sense as you get to know it though.

You should check out on the material editor in the manuals, it has it all explained. It'll help you not having to wait for an answer here on the forum for all of those small issues that pops up that has to do with a little button somewhere or some small thing that needs to be selected first.

Best of luck on your future MAX endevours.
