Has anyone had this problem. When I have a light selected and use the 1 button to pan around, the panning slows down. Deselect the light and it becomes free and easy ,as it should.
Strange.

Thats because the light (or any object) is selected and by default becommes the center of rotation. Try add Ctr key and the Camera will orbit as you might expect (Around its own axis) or Shift and the camera will rotate around center screen.

c4d does its best to change how fast the tools work depending on your scene size and the position/size of the selected object. I am guessing that the selected light is near the centre of the view, or you have a very large/small scene? Just shifting the entire scene over by 100 units can help.

If I select any other object it works fine. It only happens with lights when I use the 1 keyboard shortcut for move camera. Sometimes it only slows down a little, sometimes it feels like there's a fat invisible cat sitting on the mouse.

I tested this with just a primitive cube in the scene. One time when it really slowed down I moved the light a couple of units and it worked fine. It's not a huge problem just slightly annoying.
