I start my computer, windows loads up and then i get a txt file on my screen saying blah blah blah n00b......, you know what i mean. My security(Norton internet security) are all disabled and i cant get into the program anymore to enable it.

Seems like i lost 50% control of my system.....does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this.

Thanks.

Take that machine off the internet right away.

What OS are you running and what services packs do you have installed, are you behind a firewall of any sort?

The system is running Win XP Home SP2 and it uses Norton Internet security 2003(firewall + Antivirus).

It seems like i can't get in the windows security center, once i click on it it pops up and vanishes again, also with norton, and the taskmanager.

Safe mode?

Nope safe modes does nothing, it even won't load, it just stays at a black screen with the flikkering -

I've tried normal safe mode, with network possibilities and with the prompt. No succes, Seems like i've to format it, there goes my evening. :D

It's sad when these things happen. I'd agree with the suggestion (above) to switch to Firefox for browsing. Also, avoid opening Microsoft Word documents (.doc) as they are the biggest carrier of viruses out there.

I have to agree with firefox, i'm using it on my systems at home, i also use norton and don't have any problems with it, never a virus and such.

To bad that whenever some of my family have computer problems they call me to fix it :( i just have to convice them now to stop using msn, incredimail and those bogus programs.

How about firewalls within routers? are they any good in conjuction with norton?

what he said. Much quicker than tracing your hole, back online in an hour with a clean system.

AFFIRMATIVE. Once you go MAC, you'll never go back. Never go back to ever using any type of computer. Once you experience the backwardness of the MAC OS and the posibilities of a one-button mouse, you sell all your computer equipment and take up carpentry!

Haha! Just kidding, please be a advised the last thing I want is a flame war!! If you guys take offense to my little post, please feel free to erase it!

If this computer is on a broadband connection get a router with a built in firewall (most of the do) if it is on dial-up get a router with a built in firewall... These don't work "with" software programs, they work before them keeping a lot of crap out, making it harder to hack in. In general if you are running a firewall in front in a seperate box no one can see the systems behind it (unless you open up ports on it).

And most importantly... do not use warez... the are very virus plagued.

Jdex brings up a good point, not only warez but any thing that your niece is downloading, she could have downloaded all kinds of "cool" toolbars, search assists, funny games, etc... Even with a firewall if the person using the computer doesn't know better, you will be fixing many more of these problems.

Educate them.

 No exhaust from my end bro... you know most mice will work on macs now. I just like a machine that doesnt crash every couple of hours. I use both pc and mac. I just got a brand new e series Gateway at work...with the works and it crashes more than my 2 year old mac that is pretty full. so if backwardness from pc = working correctly call me a handyman.:D

The system is fixed again, thanks for the info guys. Next time i'll charge them 50$ a hour.

Dont know what you'r doing to cause crashes every few hours.

My system at work hasnt died this year (Not counting a power outage), and it's on 24/7
