DWIEMER 02-12-2002, 11:54 AM Hi,
this is my first character / nurbsmodelling. It's a work in progress and i'm not that experienced so i'm looking for some feedback on my modelling and proportions before i go into the nose / eyes part of the job. btw do i need more resolution in the model?
thx a lot from a beginner

Hello, welcome to the board.
1)get an anatomy book
2) the top of the head is REALLY weird.
3) the profile is good.
4) mouthe corners are exaggerated
And some more stuff. That is good for a first model. That's how my chars looked at the beginning, the VERY beginning as well.

thank you for the constructive advise! The mouth is exaggerated
because he's going to have a big one.
i'll keep updating the image in progress if you're interested
where can i see some of your characters?

If your serious about learning to make human characters i would take up Raul on his advice (getting an anatomy book).
Practice away!

Allready got some reference material but a good book is always usefull :) I'm not planning to make accurate humans, i'd like to make more fantasy characters.
when you start working on a character is it always from scratch (setting up curves) ? It cost a lot of time or do i have to practise more. for this stage i modelled for 10 hours.

yeah practice helps with everything... the more you do it the faster you get
i tried doing the curve thing a few times but i soon learnt that i hated NURBs and that Polygons were my love child. So i mostly model characters in polygons now.
I recommend that everyone should try to recreate our reality before fantasy. Recreating reality will help you focus and understand how detailed our environment is. Our mind uses our reality as a reference point to judge a fantasy world. This judgment will decide if that world is believable or not. To make a fantasy world believable requires the highest artistic skill that one can achieve. Creating fantasy should not be a starting point to learning but more like a final destination

watch out to have Regular CV around the Nurbs Patchs
as im seeing, your Model is not totally proportional ( the back of the head seems to have un-even Patch size )
Try to even out those this will be great help for texturing later

the back of the head will be hidden, because there will be a separate hairmodel over it.
i thought i'd make one good head and transform the proportions when i need another head or is that the wrong way.
polygons is not my thing because i don't have the grips for it, nurbs has more control to me i guess. Subdivision i like too but i'd never tried them

Ok, there is still a lot to do but i begin to see the big picture. This is really satisfying, but still there needs to be much much more practise.
I'm going to work on the rest of the clothes before i finish the head so i can practise on the rest of the body. The t-shirt is a temporary coverup.
opinions still welcome
