I'm currently using a p3 550 w/ 256mb ram and a GeForce3 64mb. Got two 9 gig scsi hd's and an big external drive for storage. I'm good on peripherals and monitor. I just need to get this beast up to speed for as cheap as possible. I use Maya for most of my 3d needs, but primarily for character modelling. I also want to be able to play the cool games.

I know I'll need new mobo, proc, and ram. It also looks like I'll probably need a new hd too. If I have to I'll continue to scrape by on the old video card. It seems to do ok in Maya. I'm looking for reccomendations or reviews.

Ideally I'd like to get a motherboard that would have pci express so I can upgrade later on. It would be super great if I could stay under $500 US dollerages.

Help please,

Steen (creepin' along)

likely u would have to pick either agp or pci-e. Very few mobo's that do both and from what i read it is a compromize in performance. Do a search here for some more details. if money is an issue then maybe just get a agp board, after all they will continue to make agp cards for some time, and in fact software has yet to take full advantage of what agp 8 offers.

Asus A8N SLI Deluxe (nForce4, well worth getting)......... 158.00

AMD Athlon64 3500+ socket 939 90nm.........267.00

nVidia 6800GT......385.00

Corsair ram, 1gb PC3200, prices vary depending on type, but you can get 1gb of Corsair Value ram for as little as 106.00 (512mb x 2)

The 3500+ is an overclocking monster, and nVidia has made it SAFE to overclock using a utility called nVTune which will test your system and allow you to set safe settings without danger of burning up your system.

Great value and Maya runs like a bat out of hell on AMD processors.
