I'd like to have several instances of an animated object but want to have an offset in the animation so the objects don't animate in sync with each other.

Is this possible?

Off the top of my head I'd try using the Vibrate expression on each instance maybe with different position values. Or try Renato's NOTA plug.

Thats not really what I meant. Using a vibrate on instances will just make them all vibrate in sync with each other. I want them to move out of sync.

As for the nota plugin, I don't know it well enough but I don't think it deals with instances and time offsets. But please correct me if i'm wrong.

Not in fornt of Cinema right now but don't instances show up seperately in the timeline? Maybe just offset the keyframes there?

you can certainly offset the keyframes in the timeline. That is the most basic method to acheive this.

Hi szann - I'm sure there's a few ways to do what you want. It's a bit clumsy but one that springs to mind is to create a particle emitter to emit your object over a period of frames, emitting one object per 5 frames or whatever. The 'particles' will animate with their timing beginning at their birth time. Start your animation at t=50 or whenever all your instances are made. All you have to then is keyframe the emitter around the locations of your instances.

Now someone else can come along and tell you a real slick way to do it ;-)

Edit: Slight problem, this only works for a single poly object, not a hierarchy.

oh wait no okay my fault. Got my terminology all wrong. I want to achive this dynamicly. Like with an array or with jenna's iterator.

Neoklassik I've tried your suggestion but the instances can not be edited in the timeline. or can they at least they don't show up in mine.

Chrissyboy Yes, that works. I'll have to dig deeper in TP bud wanted to do that anyway. Did a little test and it looks like your corredt in saying it only works on single objects.
This is great for a few things I have in mind wich are very linear but can there be more contol. I have a little experience in Flash and thats alot about movieclips wich can be manipulated. Could something like that be done.
