View Full Version : Tutorial: Modeler Backdrop Images (+some preliminary Photoshop work)
Yiorgz 09-21-2002, 08:30 AM Hi all,
I spent a bit of time this afternoon making this tutorial. I hope it's useful for some of you.
It's all about the SetUp ... How to crop and prepare an image to use in the backdrop for modelling.
It is aimed at users of LightWave and Photoshop. I think some of the tips might apply for other image manipulation packages.
Here it is...

Cheers !! :)

Hey thanks ....
It's not really a LW only tutorial, and does really depend on the user having Photoshop. It's also not up to scratch as far as punctuation goes... Lots of typos here and there. So for now it can help people here until I give it a once over.
I wanted to add a picture that shows a really off balance creature. Deciding where the middle line goes in Photoshop really makes positioning easier.
What I didn't point out, was the benefits of doing it this way. The part where you drag the marquee to the other side is done so that it creates the right amount of whitespace.
It just helps place the image. When it comes down to it, all you really have to do is spend a little bit of time playing with numbers to get the middle point where you want it.
Ultimately it's better to crop the image as tight as possible to the edges of the creature. You get more detail that way.

Spelling is only a spell checker away. As far as being a LW tutorial, maybe consider it a pre LW tutorial, but it does help, and often this is the first step. Helpful none the less and thanks!
I'm sure Newtek can spell check too! :P
