this my latest work. i want to create a dynamic looking battle scene. image is done with xsi 4 and mental ray for rendering. all effects are done in xsi, postwork in gimp2. the motion blurs of the ships and explosions are done in xsi, mb of the lightning effects also done in gimp.

Nice work :) It's good to see people posting space stuff outside of just the challenges and such.
What bothers me about the piece is that it doesn't seem to have a major focus. I'd suggest making the glaring sun a bit smaller and make the action surrounding the exploding ship the focal point of the image, with the other combatants relegated to the background for atmosphere. Right now it doesn't seem to have a strong enough sense of "this is the main thing the image is trying to depict."

I agree with McC. Even though the picture looks nice on first impression it just looks like a mess of details. Aren't the stars in the background far too visible? I'm not astrologist, but don't stars become less visible when theres a dominating light source nearby (ie the sun)?
Wait, maybe that's a photography thing.
Either way i think the stars are too visible/too many.
The Fx are nice though. For a still, you really do need a focal point, other wise it doesn't work well.
