I've been wanting to create a medieval type 'gothic' image for a while now. Last night, while updating my stock photo library, I got inspired to create a throne room image, similar to the one in Warcraft III.

I took about an hour to slice up some photos, and put together some rough models to rough out the scene, and test a few lighting options.

This image is just a scamp, mainly to test out composition-I will begin the actual modeling today.

Interesting. I like gothic style stuff. Throw some props in there though like a throne, chairs, weapon or torch stands etc. to give it more atmosphere. :)

Nice idea! I like the atmosphere a lot and hope you can preserve it in your image.

My gold fish's name is Bob aswell. :)

Ive designed a few props for it (wall torches, and such) already, and will post them up as soon as I get down to modeling em. With the throne, I'm still trying to figure out what is going to sit on the top of those steps. While a throne is the obvious choice (being a throne rom and all), I'm still gonna keep that area open till right at the end of the project. I have a few ideas-but non of them scream out 'cool' just yet.

I also like that one. I like how cold it is. More elements coming up!

Thanks mate. Ill try some other compositions tonight, and upload them. I definately wanna make the room an entire room, that I can fly a camera around.

Thanks mate. So do i! :)

OK-Heres what i've got so far....this is the top of the arch above the cross. Its maybe coming off as a little 'Quake like' with the skulls, but they will be small in the final image, so I dont think they will dominate the image. Plus-Ive had this modeled skull lying around for AGES, and I finally have a use for him.

The people that are sitting ontop of the arch will eventually cover the arch in different poses. I'm thinking that it will depict some sort of battle-perhaps the rise of the current king?

C&C always wanted! And please be harsh!

Working on the side pillars supporting the arch. I'm not to happy with the posts inside the 'bone cage', and have a really good idea that i'm busy implimenting. This is just to keep ya'll updated!

I updated the pillars (in between renders of 'work stuff. :) ), and I think that these new ones are a lot more interesting.
I figured that this is getting alot more gothic than I originally planned-but hell, i'm gonna go all the way on this one!

The idea is that those 'demons' at the bottom of the pillar represent imprisoned Cherubim, forced to kneel down in subservience of *insert cool sounding name here*. The 'cage' at the top of the pillar has a model of a little dude with his arms spread open, as tho he is supporting the arch above him (think Atlas)-but you will only really make that out in the higher res render.

The spine-like things wrapping around the pillar are a little nod to my all-time-favorite artist, Giger.

quiet insane what you're cooking out here... Right lightning is cold but somehow nice. Makes things look abendon.
but i'd go for 1, since your objects in place already look quiet evil, things get some ballance into warm light. besides, thats propably whats coming closest to the "wc3" feel.

looking forward for more, this is goin to be an amazing work

Great start! No doubt that this will become great!!
Btw.: Have you heard about this church somewhere in Czechia which is decorated mainly with human skulls? Your work reminds me a bit of it...

OMG ..I love this gothic style ...and Giger is a great artist ..
well about the room ..I like the atmosphere that you have gotten, I prefer a dark lighting as in the third image ..maybe you can try to create a very strong contrast of light and dark..
keep it up

it looks fantastic, but it doesnt look gothic at all. its got like a techno-abyss feel. remember that gothic is of or relating to the middle ages/medieval (and hence has 'catholic' connotations).

the first images do the job, but the arc with the bones? fantastic, but not gothic.

regardless, i want to see more =]

Thanks for the reply's guys.

the1st_angel-I also like the blue cold lighting. I think that i am going to go for a variation on that, but have wall torches, illuminating a few areas with a yellow/orange glow.

Thanks mate. ;)

I have heard of it, but never seen pictures of it...

niki & Slicey

Thanks!

I agree that the image is gothic' per se. The original idea was supposd to be gothic, but its gone alot darker than I originally planned-but for the final image, I like where its going.

I'm not gonna hae the cross there (a 'christian cross' surrounded by imprisoned angels and skull'ed arches is a little bit sacreligious), but its going to have something a little more appropriate to the image.

More coming up later on today...now i'm gonna go watch Stargate: Atlantis. ;)
