Are there any other extrensions I can make my files like mpegs. Please tell me the extension, thanks.

Try and render out to bitmaps (.bmp, .tga, .tif, whatever you want), and compile them into a movie later on using a post-production program (After Effects, Digital Fusion, Combustion, etc.)
MAX might be able to output to Quicktime.. I.. I think it could once anyway. You won't find the capability of outputting directly to mpegs at any rate.
To clean up your codecs, or at least some of them, I suggest you could go to google and search for "nimo codec pack", it's a pack with a whole slew of codecs, and if you install those you'd like to have from this pack, they might make things better.

I downloaded the BadAvi.zip from Discreet. Then I followed the directions and I got down to the second to last step and couldn't find the folder :(

also how do i change the codec for the animation once choosing it when you save
is there a way to change this?

Hit the "Setup" button in the Save File dialog box, and up pops the same window as the one that pops up the first time you set a file-name.
