hi all,

here's a few questions....

i'm modelling, and have been frequently saving, always changing the file name ....and so far so good.

i didn't notice before, but i realized on my last save, that all the older previous files in my folder don't have the Maya icon beside them anymore.....

instead, they have that generic white box with the Windows icon.

now, when i check that folder in Windows Explorer....there are a bunch of other files in there.....they have the same name as the Maya files(.mb)....but their extensions are ICO.

btw, when i check in Explorer, all the Maya files do have the maya icon....sometimes!

so....

1.) why does the Maya icon appear in Explorer sometimes, but not at all when i Save or Open in Maya anymore?

2.) what are those other files with the ICO extension?

3.) also out of my 10 Maya saves, those duplicate ICO files only appear for 6 Maya files , the other 4 Maya files don't have corresponding ICO files. (hope that makes sense)

i did a few tests, by saving on the desktop...
sometimes when i re-boot those Maya files have an icon, and on other re-boots they don't.....what da dillio?

oh yeah, the files on the desktop never have corresponding ICO files.

i figure ICO has something to do with the Icons,....but what?

also, these icon-less files do open and i can work on them...
but it's just unsettling when i don't see the slanting 'M'....:)

btw, the computer has Maya 2.5 Unlimited installed....

hope that all made sense and sorry for the LONG message...
thanks in advance.

i dont know since ive only used version 4.0+ It might be tought to find someone who has used 2.5 and remembers. Maybe its the way the old version handled swatches?

hey Crode,

i don't know if it has to do with it being an older version, cuz it only happened recently....but the month before, it was ok.

thanks for the reply.

what happens when you double-click on them?

I've had icons change on me before, but it usually didn't change the actual file type.
