View Full Version : how to control gradient with bump?
pelos 03-09-2005, 01:01 AM hi,
who can i use a gradient with bumps map,
like the gradient layer in LW, deper bump is one color, higer bump another color

Download Thomas Helzle's AON Shader docs ... even though you may not have his shaders, he goes into great detail about the workflow. The planet tutorial especially pertains to what you're trying to accomplish. Hope that helps. :)

Easily. Just connect the value output of whatever's driving your bump (say, a noise shader) to the U input of a gradient, then connect the gradient's color out to the color input of your material. Voila.

Iso thanks
i did a displacement map in Zbrush,
and add a simple flow like the mini tutorial o taron to explain who to use displacment,
i conect the texture map to the U of the gradient, and the gradient to color, and work!!!
but what exactly the U means?
thanks guys!

"u" denotes a parametric value, usually 0.0-1.0. Think of it as the "u" component of "uv"; uv is 2 dimensional (width/height), but a gradient has only a single dimension which is why it only has "u". So, if you see "u" or "uv" inputs/outputs on any shader, it is usually a method for controlling that shader, or extracting the current parametric "position".
Let me know if this is clear.
