Hi everyone

This is my humble contribution to the world of free rigs for Maya :buttrock: :buttrock:

http://www.design-o-rama.com.br/3d//bboy/bboyv1.jpg

Since I'm a total newby with this rig thing, it is adviced that my setup is far from being perfect.

I've tried to build a simple low polygon (but well stylized) character, with a simple facial control.

- no IK/FK switch, just an IK leg with heel control
- FK arms
- hands and fingers can be controlled by special attributes on the channel box
- simple facial control with 3 basic espressions that can be blended together and some extra controls, like: separated eye blinking and jaw

You can put it in your animation reels, or whatever, if you want to. No problem :)

well, it's SIMPLE and it's FREE :deal: so, ENJOY!

PS: Don't forget to tell me what do you think about this one, it was my first attempt to make a full rig.

This really is a cool looking rig. Very stylized http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Though my only gripe is that you used a poly cube for one of the face controls. It would have been fine with just using a nurbs curve or locator or something so that it doesn't render. And it would have been nice to have the control attributes to have a min/max of 10 instead of 1. That way you have finer control. Other than that I really like the look and it's simple to use. That FK/IK switch would be nice, but it's a great job on your first full rig. Looking forward to your second, third, fourth, ....http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Looks good, I converted the file to an maya 5.0 file using the "mayaFileConverter 10 WIN32'" script from highend. Looking forward to the next update :)

Just a minor thing:
It wouldbe really cool if you could give us the possibility of animating the lower eyelid. I just love animating it, it can really enforce an experession so it's pretty usefull

-thanks

And now two small gifts: version 1.02 and an Ascii version ;)

there you go:

<< UPDATE 1.02 version >> (http://www.design-o-rama.com.br/3d/bboy/bboy_v102.mb)

PS: right now I'm working on the 1.2 version... I'll put more control over the expressions (not only simetrical) and some orientation bugs.... :) I'll upload it probably between sunday and monday.

cheers guys

Looking good, a few suggestions:

You could limit the amount of translation for the face controls. After a certain amount of translating, the movements stops, which is good, but you can still move the facial controls, limiting there movement as well would be good :)

You could make us able to lower the eyebrows more. Now you can only go from standard mode to raised mode. To have the abillity to lower them some more would be cool, we can make him look super uber cranky :scream:

A very little thing, but I think it would be more logical to have the brow control above the eye control, just a minor thing, but I thought I should mention it.

The controls are good, but the arm controls look weird. I don't know if it is the conversion, but all the x channels are locked in my version. Kind weird since you can rotate the shoulder and upper arm in every direction.... I can rotate the lower arm in x and y, but I think it's more logic only give us the x options, since y is pretty much impossible in real life ;)

Anyhow, it looks good, really like this one, it's fast and it's got character. Hope I helped a bit by pointing out these things

You helped me a lot! :applause:

cheers and thanks again

Looks great! I use maya at work and c4d at home. Our c4d community is lacking in the kinds of resources that Maya and Max have, so i decided to start making some conversions. So far, we have a c4d versio of IKJoe, IKJane, and LowMan. It would be great if you gave me permission to do the same with your rig. You can head over to our site and see how we give credit and links and decide. Just PM me if it is ok. I dont tend to hang out in here often, i might not get the reply.

I must say thanks for the rigs. I never get tired playing with them. Obviously they are for just personal use...but it is so good for animators to be able to use many different rigs. Thanks so much and I will watch the thread for any updates. Again thank you and keep up the great work.:)

Really Cool !!
Really handy n fun to animate rig dude....i tried it for my 10 Seconds Animation and it was good. Itll be great if you can bundle a Synoptic or a Shelp for easy selection of the controls.
Secondly can i have FK and IK/Fk switch for the hands ?
Thanx for the contributions.....
