Hey all, this is my character I've been working on, it was for the last Game Art Challenge but I never got to meet the deadline. Anyway I thought I'd move it over here for feedback off people while I texture the model so any Critiques would be great. The old wip can be found here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=192880)

God this has really moved along since I last checked in!
The arm detail is looking solid man, love the tatoo work! Celt to the core!
Cloth material is looking great to man, I WANT MORE!
....get back to it!

Finally a departure from these low poly characters. Can we see a wireframe....and are you using bump mapping? It looks Dead or Alive quality...

Thanks for the encouragement lads.

Eoin - Cheers man and dont worry, full steam ahead on this now so check back soon!

HaloAnimator - Yeah I'd not bothered to do a wireframe up until now, its a bit tricky in LW from what I know so i'd put it off for the moment. From this far back the mesh gets a bit heavy in the face! oh well

Loving it! This is an original character! Nice concepts and a great model... lol love that tatoo... it doesnt look like the usual cheesy barbed wire. ;)
Well done dude!

awesome texturing man. skin is just spo-on

however u get a really hard edge on the lower arm. looks from the wireframe you could make that a lil smoother perhaps?

Heres an update, I've a long way to go on the textures but I started off on the jeans which are still mirrored and flat looking, also i added more details to the upper body.

HaloAnimator - Yeah lightwave, nothing wrong with that is there?! :)

Wildstyles - Thanx

Motives - Do you mean the entire shape of the lower arm(forearm)?

no, i think the shape of the arms is great, muscle definition is really good. Just this one spot on the extensor digitorum

Really excellent work on the arm muscles and textures. I think his head possibly looks a little small for his size.
My main crit is that the stripes on his shirt are a bit mad around the arms - they dont seem to flow with the cloth and stretch - as if they have been projected from the front and dont wrap around the side. I dunno if youre still working on this, but its coming on great.

He's looking a bit feminine without his.. well you know. And his butt is a bit flat. I know as a male artist, these are areas that you'd try to pay as little attention to as possible. But it is noticeable that you didn't want to pay much attention to these areas (i think more shading in the texture will resolve this). Looks good though man.

Heres a new update,
Just been working on the textures of the body, starting to take shape now so I need to move onto the textures for the head and weapons. I made changes to the tatoo to wrap around the arm now which I think looks alot better!

Motives - cool I see now, I'll try and smooth that out.

Andy H - Funny I was thinking the head was too big at the moment! Yeah the stripes need to be looked at, i havent gone back to them yet so I'll have a closer look at some point.

thesightsmith - I hear ya and i'll try and do something about it, i have added shading to his hind quarter which looks better now I think, havent addressed the bulge yet! :)

Hey, it is coming alone very well. One thing I can suggest, I can see painting the specularity on a low poly model because of limited texture memory, but I would take the specular values you painted in the color map, and put that in a specular map for this kind of model. Such as on the shoes, if it is leather, you can used the specular to compliment the bump mapping.

Are you using bump mapping by the way? With a model this detailed, bump mapping would be suitable i think...

And yes, I am glad you are using Lightwave

EDIT: I just can't tell if those are spec maps on the shoes...

No HaloAnimator their not specular maps on the shoes, at the moment I'm just painting everything on the colour map. I have the textures setup in layers in Photoshop so later theres no problem with changing it about to have spec maps. Since this piece really is to show off my modelling/texturing skills I may not do that as theres gonna be no animations involved or anything. I havent chose to use bumps either but like what I just said about the specs these things can be easily changed if really needed.
Oh sorry I thought you had a problem with LW there! :) I love it for modelling compared to Max, their the two programs I use for 3D.

Hey cool model man but the hair and sweatband sort of looks like a helmet in the side view. Don't know if you're going to fix that with alpha maps in the future but I just thought i'd point that out. Otherwise great model with a clean texture

Great model keeganb_2000!!. Texture work are really great, especially after this adding more and more details. And like was said earlier(I know that is a WIP), hairs, give them more attantion. It's very great character, maybe in the final You will make some dirty, getto render??
Take care.

Its coming along nicely man! Well done... Watch out for the mirroring! You need to take the folds in the clothes on one side a make them different to the other...!
Thats all i can really see now...images/icons/icon7.gif

cheers

Yes indeed. the trainers look cool man, like the addition of black!

Just need bigger contrast between materials now, leather, cloth and skin.

Yeah the headband and hair are next I take it?

Nice texturing. Overall i like it. Something about the top of the shoulders seems a bit flat though. Good work!

Heres another update, I have been remapping the head as there was a few things I wasnt happy with and now I've made a good bit of the textures for it. The ears havent been touched yet and the hair is quite rough aswell. i still have tonnes to do on this but would love some feedback/motivation! Thanks for all the replys and critiques from everyone!

Chanchito - Yeah this image should clear things up a bit, I have detached the headband thing and will have that seperate so I can tilt it a bit and make it less perfect/mirrored.

Poraszek - Thanks dude and yeah at the very end i'd like to dirty it all up a bit, the funnest part maybe!

Wildstyles - Yeah I'll move the mesh about to get rid of the mirroring, I'm gonna leave that till near the end when I'm happy with the textures

eoin - yeah head is next alright, check it!

dmonk - Thanks, if you get a chance please go into more detail about your shoulder observation!

Looking really good man!. Just out of curiousity, what size maps are you using? The snaps on the leather neck peice are looking a little stretched/pixelated. That's the only crit I have for ya. Otherwise, everthing is looking smooth and well modelled.

head looks much better now. I still don't like the hair, and I agree about the leather neck thingy.

I am closing in on this as a finished piece and plan to post it in the finished gallery soon. Here he is in a relaxed pose with a few more details.

thesightsmith - Thanks dude, the challenege allowed us to use one 1024x1024 for the body and two 512x512 for head and weapons. Yeah I know what you mean about the neck strap, I should of given a bit more space to the texture page.

-KDX- - The hair is looking better now but the image I posted doesnt show that off! I'll do some closer renders when I get around to it.
