View Full Version : No text in nodes?
Tombed 03-08-2005, 10:32 AM Hi,
Just recieved my copy of Messiah Studio Workstation and have run into a problem with the interface. The text in the shader nodes is invisible unless I right-hold the mouse in the fields. I have an Sapphire ATI card (9600pro) cat 5.1 could this be related? On a related note I am trying to license AON shaders but no text appears in the dongle ID box:shrug:
Attached is a screenshot of the problem.
Thanks, Tom

This is a classic symptom of some Graphics cards.
Been there painfully at the time nobody bothered to recommend me a good card.
I suggest either to try a different driver first and see if the problem still exists.
Then try to find a person with the same card and ask him to install messiah demo to see if the problem has something with your pc.
Third, swap the card for a better one.
Good luck

Thanks, thought that might be the case. Ordered an Asus GeForce 6800GT. Seems some 3d software hates ATI, some hates Nvidia so you need two horses......

Glad you posted that because having searched this forum it appears the Nvidia 6800 series are the source of most of the UI problems with Messiah. I was about to change my order. Well if it works, great if not, I'll exchange it.

Hey GabrielW, could you give some specifications on what system/machine you run, what graphics drivers and what settings (any special setting)?
PmG is trying to track down the problems that others and I have with 6800 cards (and they already made some big progress so far:)).
Thanks.

I have issues with the 6800 GT as well ... although not as severe as the ATI problems mentioned. :)

6600GT has problems as well.

Could you say what the problems are and what drivers and manufacturer your cards use? It might help PMG figure out the problem. It seems odd that some people have this bug and others not.

ATI problem solved! I forced Z buffer to 16 bit in the Cat 5.1 drivers (3d/open gl/compatibilty) and voila! All text works! UI still looks somewhat scrappy, a bit like its been keyed but if it works I'm v happy:)

heheh i know. but in open gl forced 16 bit you have slow engine:(:(:( with normal settings OPEN GL engine is fast as HELL!! test it with PMG scenes.

Hi GabrielW,
I think what is needed much more than your hardware info are the settings for your graphic card. If you could post screenshots of your card/driver display properties, it would be most helpful to the other users.
Thanx:)

GabrielW and MyFault,
thanks for the machine specs...
Could you guys make screen shots of your card settings, too?
It seems that OpenGL transparency & layers are particularly relevant.
THe more info, the merrier....

Well I gave Nvidia (ASUS 6800GT driver version 6.14.10.7184) a go and it was worse. Just a black window. My first Nvidia card in years and the drivers are as irritating as ever. 3d performance sucked too for the price tag, not much better than my ATI 9600pro. I guess thats because ASUS ripped out half the VRAM:scream: I'm going back to the relative safety of ATI and exchanging it for a X800 XT PE. If it works I'll post in the "compatible" thread.
Cheers.
Edit the 6800GT is working ok now except for the mess when dragging shadernodes. Looks like the screen isn't cleared while the mouse button is down.

hello :):)
i have POLISH( poland) GUI i think yo dont understand anythink?:)
is there(in driver) a way to save my prefs into a file???
Ok, I post my display settings here (at least the ones that I think may be relevant). So those who don't have display problems with their 6800 can compare and let us know if any of their setting are different. Btw, I'm using a dual monitor setup, but I also tried with a standart single monitor setup and it doesn't make a difference, so that can't be the problem.
