leeloo 03-08-2005, 12:54 AM Maya Question..... I have a character picking up a box... how do i temporarily lock the box to the characters hands while he lifts it.... or do i have to keyframe each position?

I think you can just use a Parent constraint (in the Constrain menu, not Edit>Parent) and key the weight of the constraint.

I'm new to Maya so bare with me.... so I use a parent Constraint... constrain>parent... but what will i constrain to? The bones in the hand? or the geometry?
also.. do i click the box then the hand or the other way around?

Yeah, you can constrain it to the main hand bone, and for constraints you would select the hand bone first, then the box (which is the opposite of regular parenting). Hope that helps.

Ok I managed to get the box to constrain to the hand.. how do i turn it off for the first 40 frames... I tried keyframing but that just turns off the constrain! Its not until frame 40 that he picks the box up!
