Hey, I looked in the tutorial threads and couldnt seem to find a tutorial on how to make a simple flame (like one on a match or candle) in 3DSMax. I can only find campfires or torches. Could someone tell me or direct me to a tutorial on this please. Sorry if I missed a tutorial already posted, there are a lot there.

be amazed at the breadth of the tutorials and their readability.

yes i know im shamelessly trying to get more people to buy the book, and pete doesn't even know who i am! but it really is a fantastic book, pretty much perfect for all basic effects. you learn them, and you have a REALLY nice library from which to copy from and recombine into more complicated effects (they key is just breaking them down into smaller parts which end up being pretty simple)

I did, and it only shows a campfire flame, or a big flame in a barrel. Thats all I can find, does nobody know how to do a small simple flame?

wha? the book has "how to make a match" and "how to make a candle"

those are literally the first 2 lessons of it.

oh, alright, but yeah, those are the first two tuts. they look.. REALLY nice. so id highly reccomend buying it (the book).

Well I only have Max 5, but i might still look into it. Does anybody have a...free... way of learning how?

When his site comes back online, Allan McKay has a great video tutorial for creating a basic flame with p.flow. Hopefully his site will be back up soon...
