Not entirely sure AICN is considered newsworthy here but wow, Dreamworks is going full force with this ogre.

Yea, I have to agree. This is getting totally outta hand. Statistics shows us that the more sequels, the worse the movies become and the more saturated the franchise. Can't they look at Batman, or Superman? Both of those films had terrible 3rd and 4th installments.

How many cool, unknown and unmade films are out there? What hasn't been covered in "Shrek" I & II?

shrek 3 and 4 will be produced back to back. one of them will center around a king arthur type story.

a new rocky is in the works, finalize the script.

Shrek 4 will be a prequel, where they show a complete history of the characters and the highly unlikely threads that link them together... oh wait, that's been done before.

This isn't very surprising to me. If I'm right, Jeff Katzenberg was one of the people responsible for turning Disney into a sequel factory. After his bitter departure, he starts up his own animation studio to prove he can outdo Disney. The first couple films they put out broke even, but Shrek was their first real success, as far as Hollywood is concerned...

Plus he's also one of the people that said 2D could still be successful, then said it was dead as soon as his last 2D film flopped. :D

so tell me if this is not lack of imagination. And this is going on in the games and movie industry. It is INDUSTRY.
This is just shait.

Sparing the rod and doping the kids apparently makes for stupid/senseless children or so it would seem based on the decline in child disciplinary action and use of sedatives in hyperactive children coinciding with the abundance of crappy sequels. Or, maybe people go to these simply because there is nothing else to see.
