well dont really know wat to say about this, its not entirely finished, the bg was thrown in in a hurry, and the bottom of the glass is refracting light really whack, and that lone icecube that looks suspened, is actually being held up by the other ice and the glass.

crits n comments welcome :bounce:

Like the Ice!

Yeh, that base is out of whack, check the normals.....I learnt the hard way that normals depend on the direction you spline was made before lathing (or after lathing!)...you need some shadow or something too!

yeah I agree I think you need to add the shadows, which coud fix the bottom of the glass.

Good work...lets see more as it progresses

is that so ? ill have to check.

heres another render, nothing changed except i turned on the shadows for the lights

already good! but i don't like the black parts in the glass. i'd suggest to increase the ray depth and reflection depth in the rendersettings and maybe turn caustics on.

The problem of C4D transparency is related to the fact that we can't control refraction apart from ior. In other software like Maya or Max for example the refraction has a separate channel, you can control it via mapping or via numeric limit.

how do i check the normals of a spline/cv neilyb ?

heres an update... caustics on, slightly brighter lights, blurred bg, 4 mins 43 seconds

I find the easiest is to make editable the LatheNURBS and chech the polygon normals, then undo back and make any changes to the splines direction if necessary!

O-o? :surprised

lol sorry for my slowness but could u rephrase that ? i dont understand...

I'm glad you blurred the background! It looks great! ...You should tweak the lighting more so there a more defined shadow where the glass meets the table.

It's a really realistic render otherwise! Lots of progress from the first pic!

WHOA~!@#!@~!@!~#@!$#@!@

i didnt know u could turn a lathe into polys by just pressing c, now i understand

you learn somthing new everyday

the normals were alligned, any suggestions on how to get rid of the whack bottom of the glass ?
