Not sure I understand correctly. You would like to reference a file which contains layers, but have those layers not show up in the layer editor?

Yes .. I 've got understand correctly. That's important , if you have many different objects in the reference file. I would like to organise more my work scene. So I search a Layer Editor UI who can create Parent / Children Layer hierarchie to have more control, of what you neeed on the viewport.

Gotcha. Unfortunately I don't know of such a UI. Have you checked highend3d.com or the Maya BonusTools?
