Looks great so far, i really like the concept drawings. BTW you almost got the thread title right, you still put character OR environment. This looks like a character thread, but I dont think they will hurt you for it. Got any plans for gear? We need to start guessing...

newest shot... I'm pretty satisfied with this... Probably join it together and do a quick rig to test it tonight

Dammit... Still got it wrong! Oh well... I'll have a very small environment, so both are correct

(that's MY excuse and i'm sticking to it)

hhhmmmmm, Mr. caddy.... you don't mind if i shorten your name do you.... i some how don't thnk that you are much for "socail scripts"....

i like the modle so far.. keep it up... but i do have a few issues with it... i find that the pec's are a little sharp... even if they are old and droopy... they should have a little more rool to them at the bottoms and not be knife sharp....

I like the loin cloth, nice touch!

And it is good to see you here man!

No problem there Try! Thanks for the critque, pecs are fixed now.

Any constructive criticism is welcomed, so tear into it, folks.

Li'l update.... spent the weekend unwrapping (GAH!) and pulled out the ol' wacom tablet and started painting the texture... This is just the beginning of the texture map... long, long way to go yet.

Guess I'll mention my gameplan for modeling this character. He's actually fairly low poly (1568 faces) in his unsubdivided form(pictured here). I wanted a character that would be easy to weight and nice and fast to animate with. My last character was 45000 faces. Sure, she had a lot of nice detail, but the UV unwrapping took 2 weeks alone. I intend to fake all the little stuff in with the texture, bump, spec and transparency maps.

Hi all... I came across my second snag of recent days. This is what happening when I enable bump mapping in XSI. Doesn't matter how... if it is taking bump info from the image or a separate bumpmap... any level of subd from none to 3... This combined with the fact I can't use a blinn shader or it crashes rendering.

hmmm... 1568faces, all four sided or less... one light... one texture map. Pretty complex! I hate to see what will happen if I do something INSANE like add a transparency map, or maybe rig the character so I can move him.

If I can't solve this I may have to drop out of competing this round.

I forsee the future! I see myself, smiling, sitting at a computer, using Maya....

:xtreme: YES! I fixed the bumpmap! :xtreme:

My own damn fault, kinda. Oh well, live and learn...

Slowed me down a bit, but I got some early shots of my character here with untextured teeth and eyes....

Got the rig in but I haven't played too much... I enveloped it once and it seems to move pretty good even without tweaking. I think he be a blast to animate when I'm done...

So... comments and constructive critiques welcome! Please tell me what you think!
