I thought i'd model and eventually animate a ninja turtle for my first project with softimage xsi 4.2 foundation...kind of a learning project. I used refernce planes for the head and looked at a turtle toy and some pics for the body. So far i've been working on it around 5 to 6 hrs. Just switched from Maya and so far so good...except my fingers sometimes get tangled with the hotkeys...any comment and crits are welcome

Well I have no Idea about XSI compared to Maya, thought about it. How is it?

Anyways off subject question out of the way. I felt that i needed to reply becuase when i was a child i loved the characters/comics. Such a shame noone else has said anything, yet. Keep pushing, lets see how far you can take it. Likeing it so far.

I feel that maya and xsi are kinda the same...modeling wise...but i do miss my marking menus and the hotbox. But the split edge tool and make parrallel edge, and edge loop tools i love. What I really want to try out is the rigging and texturing parts. Some xsi rigs look confusing. The main reason i switched is because of the price point of xsi foundation...bought without even trying the demo, but no regrets!

Yeah I loved turtles too especially the first cartoon series with Krang and Rocksteady....maybe cheesy now but hey it was my fav kids show
Master of sweep picking- I' working on the shell right now and the belt. once i get a little further i'll post some images.

O yeah the green is just for reference I'm not even close to texturing it.
Anybody else have any comments or crits??

Just wonderin which "generation" of Turtles you modeled? The old school 80's version or the new series on that Fox Box?

Either way does matter I like it very much, BUT..lol here goes.
To me at least it seems that the head looks a bit squiched, like it's being compacted.
And I think he needs more muscle in the arms and legs.

But the underbelly shell plating looks great and the eyes look nice.

Very cool, I look forward to seeing it as your progress.

Lookin really good so far, but from what I remeber of the turtles I think the legs should be a bit longer and the shell abit shorter. I could be remebering wrong though.
