Impressive work Lewis, just looked at your tutorial, that is a great resource for any members here who use LW, and seems to be applicable to Max as well. Great choice of car by the way! Oh, and nice to see a car with a full interior, I'm dreading doing that on my latest car, but now I'm inspired!

heya lewis,, buddy OL Pal... hehehe
Love that model,, can't get enough of it...
One thing that only bothers me is how bright the blue is on that stripe.. other than that,,, maybe a little more tweeking on the reflections,,, I'm currently messing with allot of these paramerters in max,,, I'm getting tired of not getting what I want out of the render..

I really like how the cars reflection in the floor kinda blurs off under it.. Hmmm but your using Lightwave,,, so I'm gonna have too figure that out in MAX..

if some one can tell me a trick too getting a little blurr in the reflection,,, in particular raytraced materials,, I was messing with a falloff material,, set to fresnel,,, trying too figure out the IOR orveride, I put in about 3.0 index of refaction,,,

Well gotta get back too messing with this stuff.

Great model as always lewis..

hehe, don't show OLD stuff here :D

Hey 8Decay.

U don't need a blur for the reflection...Thats only wasting of time!
Check out real car...the reflections are not blur!

But if U still wannt, I guess your rendering program...MAX!? Whatever should have a BLUR Reflection PlugIN?

Cya.

hey daniel,,,

Yeah,, after messing with it for hours last night,,, messing with these different tools,,, I guess what I was looking at in a REFLECTION was a smooth gradiant,,, and its hard too get those from the White Cards,,, So I last night messed with 2 methods,, one was to creat a white card in the sky and place a texture of white diffuse and a gradient in the Self Illumination slot,, and that got what I was after,,, but not quite,,, So I messed with the Self Illumination so that its Gradiant map was at about 50 percent,, so it became a little less strong in the brightness,, I then pointed a few spot lights only at the white cards,, mosly at the edge of the card too achive that sharp edge that you would get in the reflection,,,, well I'm still toying with it,,, I also found a nice method of lighting my car,, so I got one thing out of this experiment.

I have an image That I'll post in a seperate topic,,, lighting a reflections experiments,, something we can all throw some input into... hmmmm anyhoo later guys

Hey 8th, don't know if you've tried this yet, but if you use a shellac material, you get 2 slots. Then you can use 1 slot for your base material, and use a highlight only material in the second slot. Highlight only Mat is a free download I believe it can be found at Neil Blevins site. Gave me some nice results, hope it helps.

Sorry too butt in on your post Lewis,,,

yeah I'm playing with that shellac Material,, But haven't quite figured out what its doing,,, I'll check out that highlight only material,,, see if that helps out...

What I think I'm after is more along the lines of what is reflecting on the surface,,,, not so much as too how,,, hmmmm

Kinda like this
I was trying too illustrate a falloff idea that I can't seem to achieve in MAX,, where the white area is the Reflection and then it bleeds off into the paint in one direction and the other direction it makes a fine hard edge..

Thanks for comments guys :)

8Decay - i just stup reflecting parameters for floor and some graident channel to CAR surface to get blue stripes (yes they might be little darker but i never seen that CAR in real life so i don't know how dark :)) But yes i work in LW so it's probably big diference in material setup so probably any parameters won't help you :(. And new LW7 have oprions for blurry reflections if youo want :) (this one is LW 6.5b).

Daniel - yes this is "old" model - 12th mounth 2001 :) but not too old and there is always someone who didn't see it ;) - right.

Tbonz816 - thanks for comments on tutorial :) - and YES i think that tutorial can be used in many applications (there is some difference in modeling tools but every good modeling program have similar tools so it is possible to find similar tools what i use in tutorial). I have confirmations that few guys tried that tutorial with RHINO so it is doable ;).
