Just got word that a political ad I animated for the Democratic Party of New Mexico (which aired last fall) swept 2 top honors -- Silver Awards -- in the 26th Annual Telly Awards. The awards went out to Brown Inc. (Santa Fe, NM), the advertising firm who produced the ads. This spot, titled "Frivolous Fuller", was one of over 10,000 entries Nation/World-wide, with judges coming from many high-profile areas in the national broadcast industry.
The producers of the commercial wanted a look reminiscient of "South Park-meets-Monty Python", so the animation was all done with photo cut-outs and environments/textures generated in Photoshop, then applied to UV maps on 3D "cards" in LightWave and animated in a 2D style (no spec, just high diffuse). The 30 second spot was created and animated on an extremely tight deadline -- only 5 days...

I worked under the direction of David Aubrey at Lightningwood Pictures (he contracted my studio on behalf of Brown Inc.) -- was really a cool gig!
