View Full Version : Greetings and Salutations
Skullptor 02-12-2002, 05:13 AM You'll notice that this is my first post. A friend of mine referred me to this site. I'm surprised that this place has managed to evade me for so long. I just wanted to express how awesome I think it is that everyone here seems to have so much respect for each other and their artwork. A beautiful thing... *wipes a tear from my eye.* heh... With that said, I'm gonna post a few images of a character I've been toying around with, every spare minute I had, while I was at work for the past few days. I didn't use any reference material and I didn't have anything in particular in mind when I started this, so I'm not really sure which direction I want to go with this guy. It just sort of built itself, as I went along and I wound up with a few different looks. Any feedback is very much appreciated.

I'm using 3DS Max 4, by the way... The method I'm using to model this, started out with a spline cage reduced down to zero steps, converted to a mesh, then subdivision surfacing after that. This is the first time I've extensively used subdivision surfacing and I must say, I'm very happy with how much detail you can attain.

ok, now its loaded. I like the style. its interesting. you have some seam issues along the center line of the head. you need to fix the tangency. Make sure that the three vertices that line up to each other ( left side, right side, and middle.) are all running in a straight line. thatll solve that problem. good start though!

heh... thanks, I know there's a seam... one half of the face is an instanced mirror of the other, since this is a work in progress. I won't remove the seam until I finish the entire model. I also reduced the resolution, as per your request. Any suggestions as to the body type I should create for this guy?
grest start ,i look better with no glass ,i hope to see it when he will be finish .And you can make the nose less square .this is just my opinion follow what your spirit say

I really like where your going with this character, I like the top version best, but the silvery eyes in the other one is cool too. I have a couple of suggestions you may consider; How about making his face more boney or skeletal, maybe recede his nose. As for the body how about making him very thin with one of those form fitting leather/rubber suits that would exaggerate his skeletal appearance. Kinda like in Hellraiser. Of course this is just an idea.
Great start.

Great model. I would have to disagree and say go with the darker eyes, rather than the silvery ones. Otherwise there doesn't seem to be enough contrast to the face, nothing to "lock on to." (Now doesn't that sound dopey) I hope you know what I mean. Just an opinion. The big horns on the side are nice. I think they are unique enough in form not to be cliche. And then the overlapping forehead is great. With this face, the body could go in any direction. Although I like the idea of boney. Great work though.

yeah, I think I like the black, glassy-eyed version best, myself. I like the idea of making his face bony, as well as the idea to give him a leather-strapped, bony body, reminiscent of Clive Barker's characters. I think I'll try it. Thanks for the feedback, guys. Anymore ideas?

Ok.. Here's what I've done with it so far. After I finish the body, I'll go back and do something about the symetry. Feedback is appreciated.

Looks like a satanic michael jackson now...NOT that that's a bad thing. I really like this guy. Reminds me of Ron Spencer's art but 3d.
Good stuff!

Hehe... yeah, I see what you mean. I'm gettin' plenty of ideas as to how I'm gonna make the body look.
