View Full Version : THE GABRIEL STRAIN -- Scifi Collab

AJE

Priority Update January 20th, 2006:

This project has shifted and is now being done as a live action feature film.
This development means that The Gabriel Strain will get a major overhaul as
bringing it outside of a totally CG world allows us more budgetary flexibility when
production begins.

Currently, we are retooling the story. The idea is to do TGS as a feature, while leaving
room for a TV series spin-off for greater longevity of the story and characters.

We are commited to bringing the best possible 'universe' to fans of the genre. For this reason, we do not want to rush the groundwork.

Sincerely,
AJE and the development team.

*********************************************************************

Because of the numerous new people sending me PMs and messages, I'd like to ask that everybody 'sound off' by sending an email to aje@thegabrielstrain.com with the following info:

1)CGTalk name
2)Real Name
3)Your 3D Software (please be advised that this project uses Lightwave and Maya primarily)
4)What you wish to do on the project?
5)A working link to samples of your work (do not email the samples, the link will be fine. If you don't have anything online, tell me and we'll arrange another way for us to see your porfolio)
6)the country that you're in (so we know for communication/time zone purposes)
7)how much time can you devote each week to the project

Thanks for your interest!

The Story...

<***Used to be posted here. It has been removed because the initial brief no longer represents what The Gabriel Strain has become***>

The Team, so far: (if I've missed you, speak up and I'll add you to the list... )
If you're interested in joining us, let either MadKarma or myself know.

The Needs:
Here's some of the things that we need concept sketches for:

Ships:
UEP Cruiser
UEP Heavy Cruiser
Freemen Heavy Cruiser (cobbled together look)
Freemen Atoll (cobbled together... made of other smaller ships)
Freemen Space Station (heavily worn, again, cobbled together)
Freemen Hero's Ship
Freemen Fighter
Small UEP space station

Characters:
Freemen Mutants - physically (various stages), and 'mentally' (telepathic)
UEP soldiers
UEP bio-suit (self contained, light armor)
Handheld Weapons - short and long range, more tribal for Freemen, scifi based for UEP forces

Interiors:
Small Apartment (Sparks' home, sparse)
UEP Grand Hall
Freemen Hero's Communications Center
Freemen Caves
Freemen Observation Room on Atoll
Freemen Heavy Cruiser - Bridge
UEP Heavy Cruiser - Bridge
UEP Dropship (the one that deploys the Arrows) -- I have some design elements that need to be worked in, so if anyone wants to take that on, let me know first.

General:
Futuristic Cityscape
Desert & Desert Ridges
Open Space - nebulae, planets, etc...
General space junk from destroyed ships
Short and long range missiles/warheads

I'm sure there is more, but it's enough to get started on... MK and I are going to be pretty picky, so don't take offense if we ask for changes... there will be a reason.

For this project, we'll be using LW and some Maya.

As far as a timeline, we're aiming to have the trailer done within 3 months.

***** PLEASE NOTE *****

I'll ask that ALL POSTED ARTWORK have the authors name (or user ID) right on the picture as you'll see with the examples that I've posted... it'll help us on the artwork management side, and make sure you get credit for work that you've submitted.

*********************

Cheers,
AJE

ok cool
il get to work on some of the freeman ship concepts.
what do u mean by cobbled together
kind of like made of old ships because they have little resorces or like independence day where the ships are all stuck together until they need to come apart?

well il see what i can do.

AJE
03-05-2005, 07:44 AM
Glad you're in dark-elf2...

"Cobbled together" ... a bunch of ships built onto each other to make a drifter colony
Like the 'Atoll' in Waterworld or the ship the people live on in Titan A.E.

We'll need some sketches first, or if you want to conceptualize in 3D, just block it out in major pieces until the overall shape works.

Does this mean I should add your name to the list?

Cheers,
AJE

ya ok

cool
you can add me but im not sure im going to be around all the time
have school and stuff
however ill try to help as much as possible

well im working on some concepts at the moment.
may post them later if i get them done and im happy with them.

oh and its a good idea to look at some of the x-men comics and stuff if ur looking for some good ideas for mutant abilities and stuff.

dark-elf2
03-05-2005, 08:17 AM
almost forgot

is the planet or planets that the freemen live on mostly covered with land.
im just wondering what type of landing gears and stuff these things should have.

AJE
03-05-2005, 08:22 AM
The idea is that the Freemen colonies were on many planets, so there would be many environments (i.e. water planets, snow planets, tropical planets, etc... ) but at the point where our story takes place, the UEP has already begun its genocide, so the Freemen are now adrift in space... nomadic.

For landing gear, do what you like, we'll work from there... there is anti-grav capability in the story, so some may have no gear at all.

dark-elf2
03-05-2005, 09:42 AM
ok heres a quick concept

probly one of the freeman ships
not sure which one yet but it probably doesnt have much menoverability so probly a long distance ship
what do u think
i can do a 3d version if u would likehttp://picserver.mirror.twistspace.com/img.php?/CZHBLA5M91XE/YC0T4M9M5U94/JPEG/1110020279//zn07

AJE
03-05-2005, 08:58 PM
... something that looks like it was built in a scrap yard from other ship parts.

dark-elf2
03-06-2005, 03:37 AM
ok well heres a 3d concept for a ship i thought up.

cant seem to come up with anything junkyardish but we can use this if u want.
could work as one of the uep cruisers if we add some extra details.
it has a few little gun type things on the wings so might work.
just say if u want anything changed.

03-06-2005, 03:49 AM
I think we can make just about any ship look junky just by putting rusty textures on it.
but if u wanna try and model them that way then thats up to u guys.
Let Gatorbiteshard@hotmail.com help. I think he sent u an email.
he's really good.

looks cool

not really a crit but a sugestion
put a gun or some spikey thing on the bottom wing to keep the wasp like thing going.

maybe some sort of harpoon gun thing.
also a little hook thing on the back for docking would look cool
kindof like this:

AJE

nice alex... can you do one this way?

This shot would be from a higher floor in a skyscraper... high-tech somewhat cramped city, camera is in Sparks apartment on the 70th-ish floor (her building is not much taller, maybe five floors above her), the desert on the horizon, mushroom cloud (not a massive one, but one that is easily noticed) in the desert

BTW AJE I've made tons of progress on the site. I wanna show you but I don't really have a public server, and even if we put it on your server, I'd have to create the mysql databases (that won't take long, assuming you have mysql). The only problem with that is that involves giving me access that i'm not sure you want to give. Hit me up on skype when you got the time.

What I've got done is the complete member login and editing profile, as well as the entire private messaging system. Polished finely too.

Yep... things are happening behind the scenes.

MK has made some good progress on the character models, but he is um... a little busy right now.

I'm well into the updated version of the freighter, I'll be posting it when it's done.

JVI has done some great work on the TGS website, and we hope to go live soon.

Hang in there, we should have some serious headway to post soon.

Hey AJE. The image system is almost done. I know our paths haven't been crossing much on skype, but I have been working on the site. I'd say about know it's around 70% done. I just have to add a few things. Then I'll upload the working one with the Image system. That will complete the members part and the visitor's gallery. Then I'll do the news system, which will take less time then all of the other stuff..

Ooh, and contrats. to madkarma!!

Ey guys,

This really looks like a great project. Is it for a animationfilm or game? I'm a composer myself so if you'd also need music you can check my site for music demos and maybe you'll like it for this:

www.sidbarnhoorn.com (http://www.sidbarnhoorn.com)

I do from orchestral to electronic/ambient stuff plus rock/metal, jazz and ethnics.

Anyway, good luck with the project!

Been watching your progress from afar

The story is awesome...somebody was brainstorming :). The public progress that you have released in this thread thus far looks really really good. Boobie's planet photo's are awesome, and AJE's ship concepts and models are killer along with everyone elses work. There really is nothing to say about Madkaram's work, it is what it is...Great .

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the work as you guys move forward so keep it up. I'm glad to see the old team stayed intact and meshed well with the new blood.

All the best,

Some updates for the site

I added the WIP comments function to the site, so now you can post about users Works in progress (for the person that uploaded the image, and project leads specifically) **filters out unwanted comments of praise. It's just for crits.
I changed the PM Email Notification setting to where you get to choose whether it's on or not, by changing the setting in your profile.
Future Updates

Please everybody update your information with the correct info. This is becuase the next section I'm gonna create will be the public page to see who's working on the project, and I don't think it's very professional to have a bunch of "unknown"s for personal information.
After that, I'll probably create the public page for images, and updates.
Then will come the news system.
After that I don't know, we'll see where we are.
This site should be done very soon.

I could change the lighting on the ship to match the background, I'll probably do that when I update the pics.

Does anyone have any ideas on setting up a good engine light/glow? I'm not happy with what I've been using, and I want to get a really good looking one standardized.

It has to be in LW.

yeah...there's just too much to do sometimes...you do end sometimes just putting it together and don't have the time/energy for all the icing...they are WIPS after all...

On the engine glow, I guess it depends on what you like, a cylinder with an adjustable envelope would be nice to allow thrusting accents...all the same it already looks good ... it would be cool to have some openings on the side of the Engine, near the back...then we could see a few slivers of that cool glow from the front 3/4 profile as well as side and back :)

With all these cool images going back and forth i am getting quite jumpy to model a couple douzen pilots and crew to fill up the ships.
I haven't yet started on any pilot, army or freeman clothes designs or modeling.
Perhaps we call do some concept art in that direction to get that going as well as the ships did.

softdistortion
04-08-2005, 02:54 PM
Kinda like this? SWEET!
small suggestion> might look good turn down the intensity a bit ...maybe a little closer to the control window's brightness level...and make the openings even thinner slivers...IMO, they would look best as opening in the actual housing so the light escapes through them...might be the high glow, but looks a bit like they are objects attached to the surface.

It really looks FANTASTIC though...and to imagine a few short weeks back you guys were an abandoned team in turmoil...man am I glad you stayed at it!...I'd nominate this for front page if I hadn't already been told off so many times by our mod. :D
...if this is where you start, it's daunting to think where you will be in a few months.

Jensen
04-08-2005, 04:06 PM
Yeah that looks just awesome! I agree with softdistortion about toning the engine glow down a tad. The new render really looks like an action scene.

On another note:

madkarma could you please update your information on the site so it shows on the Crew page?
http://thegabrielstrain.com/test/
btw, AJE i notticed you took out your first and last name. Would you like me to make it so you can choose whether it shows your first and last name on the site to the public? Infact, I think it'll make it so almost all of the information is not required.

Boobie!

This is a great track man! Can't wait for the complete version! This is a style we could also consider for TGS. I was thinking about a epic orchestral score but something new-age, ambient electronic stuff could also definitely work. I've been working with mix/master techniques for getting a realistic sounding orchestra. Still in the beginfase though but it's getting somewhere. Here's a demo:

www.sidbarnhoorn.com/downloads/strange_land.mp3 (http://www.sidbarnhoorn.com/downloads/strange_land.mp3)

Could also be something interesting, especially the string-, brasseffects in the beginning.

amazing music
i cant begin to express how cool i think it is
both of you are such brilliant artist and i concider my self to be lucky to be in the same team
wich i must say goes for the entire team we have here
with both tracks i can realy visualise events that should take place while hearing them
personaly i think that both styles of music could work fantastic with in this given project

as you might have guessed from the picture with the babies.. i'm a bit busy
this is also the reason i am behind on my own time table

this is for the next to do list:

the model for character Sparks needs to be finished (im working on this)
gun fire sounds (i think that was covered already by boobie)
sounds for a fighter jet doing a fly by heared from the ground
earth force suit designs for high ranking persons
earth force insignia desings
pistol for Sparks

Both are really good!

Sid:

on your piece, I like the part of the picking violin (at least that's what I think it is.) at the beggining. That would be cool if you could string that out just a little more for some added suspense. It's really erie.

AJE: I know we haven't contacted eachother in a while. I haven't done much with the site as of late cause I've been really busy. One thing that's on my localhost thats not on TGS is the updated version of the Image System. I'll upload that soon... as in tonight. I'll try and get that CREW page done tonight as well. BTW remember if we need to make more usernames/passwords just email me with the details, and I'll set it up.

Good work to everyone aboard! This project is really making progress, even with the minor setbacks.

Just wanted to say hello, it was much appreciated having you drop by my project.I just wanted to return the gesture.

So what’s the game plan for this project at this point. What is the first milestone you are working towards.
Or are you just making random models that you think look kool.Until you think you have enough stuff to work with ?

See you around CGtalk, PEACE.

BOY1DA
Our goal at this point is a finished trailer, music samples, plenty of asset renders and concept art to be put into a package to be pitched to excecutive producers for feature or mini-series funding.

Every model that you see with a texture on it has a purpose. I don't go past the blocking stage if it isn't working. Textures signify that the textured part is going to stay.

AJE

My next question would be, what kind of pre-production have you done
as far as animatics go. I find it helps to do raw block animation with simple
shapes or models and edit it to music just to get the flow down and to see
what is really needed, so I won’t have to model stuff that you may never see.
Because even the trailer has to tell a good story. Or is your trailer going to
be more of a demo reel where you just show model turnarounds and concepts?

On the last model you posted of the “ARROW III” WIP..
The grey square panel texture, may look a bit better if you put
a rivet in each corner of each square , it will make the panels look
a bit more functional , instead of it just looking like random grey squares.
It will give it a look like they were put there for a purpose maybe for
access for repairing the ship… just an idea feel free to ignore it.

Oh on my project I use 3DS MAX 7. The skin morph modifier
is a life saver for me, when it comes to character stuff.
And I use After Affects for compositing and editing.

Full trailer... MK and I are treating this like a proper production. Some animatics have already happened (and that's all I'll say about that for now ;) ). Shot outlines, thumbnails, storyboards, lieca reel, animatic, animation... the whole nine yards will be employed for the full trailer. Good planning and a clear vision allows for ease of success and completion. That's the main reason why there hasn't been tons of activity on the thread over the last few days... planning is happening, and we're working the marketing into the plans as we go.
<<< AJE is no rookie. :)

Ya, the ship model is a WIP, and the textures are far from final... they'll be done right, don't worry. This is a no compromise project for a lot of us at TGS. That said, I do agree that there should be a 'reason' for the panels to be there... logic in design is important to me... it helps with suspension of disbelief for the audience later on, and all that starts when the pencil hits the paper, right in the beginning. The file is all layered in PS so it'll be a snap to drop in the new panel layer when I can get to it.

Just curious. I'm not really a Max fan, but I'm not an app snob either. You're pulling great results out of it. It's good to see!

Just wanted to add that I find this very, very inspiring. I'm writing a script for a sci-fi space show pilot at the moment, which I hope to begin a collaborative project on next year once I've finished the short films I'm working on right now. I would like to join your project. My name is Kaarlo and I'm from Finnland. I'm 16 years old and I am a concept artist. This (http://www.tkukoulu.fi/~kaarpaht/) is my gallery/web page/portfolio or whatever you want to call it. It has some of my work. The page is currently only in finnish because I just made the page 2 days ago and I hadn't had the time to translate it. Anyway "valokuvat" is photos, "maalaukset" is paintings and "piirrustukset" is drawings and the three categories in the drawings gallery are animals and creatures, enviroments and man-made things and characters or currently just anatomy studies. I also have a site at deviantart (http://floater-.deviantart.com/). I would be glad if I could design some creatures for the planets or some cool enviroments or something for your project. I also sent you this as a pm.

So are you just making a trailer first.. what is the goal of this project? I was planning on making a short book like "ROBOTA" with a story I'm writing..I was gonna start my project soon.. but I realistically can't for at least a few months. So I would like to help you guys out if you want.

I can draw, and model. I haven't modeled in a while but I'm dying to get back into it. I use XSI, I don't know if that is a problem for you.

Some of my most recent drawings can be found right on my main page under NEWS
http://jneri.silentpartnerstudios.com/main.htm

and my other 2d work can be found on this page.. go to the bottom, thats where my drawings are. I noticed you said if you can draw like FEng we are looking for you. One of my first drawings is one of his bots. I can draw like him.. but I can't come up with Ideas like him at this point.. but I hope to at some point in my life. But if you give me a direction I'm sure I can come up with some good concepts.

All the work looks really impressive so far-- I don't usually come into this forum-- I should though. I'll be glad to help out with modelling in maya. If you want to assign me some concept to work from (or if you want it original--just tell me what) I'd be glad to model and texture it to. -I have holidays starting next friday--- a ship or person-- something like that -- not a city.

There are a lot of forums to go through and different websites too. I just randomly shot all over the place. Maybe you could post a quality colage of the work that has been done on the project so far in other forums and websites-- a summary of where you are etc. Maybe a new feature could be added to the forums so that each project has it's own gallery where only members of that project can post images but anyone can browse. -- This saves on going through all the pages with text which might mean little to a newbie keen on the project. I am not aware of the infrastructure which is in place- about how you deal with files etc. If there is a little pipeline in place so that people know what they are doing and what has been done, who is working on what etc. The best I know of what to do is post on this forum and wait. (this does not bother me)

Also is it created like a studio environment is-- where people are specialising in different fields of production then forwarding their work to the next person in line? (just curious)

I feel that these forums are great to inform and recruit people onto projects-- but not the greatest at organising them.

PS
-------------------
I currently go to design school(print, video, web) where they have 3D as an elective but it is not an intense course on 3D. I was hoping to get some willing artists and organise a pipeline over the school network -- have a local website so that people can comment and share files that way. If anyone has any ideas or comments it would be good to hear from you.

most people here seem to do that on the websites they are building for the projects but you're right in that maybe those sites need to be advertised a little more.

it varies but yes a lot of projects are like a 'pipeline' which i think is what we're talking about, if a person isn't good at uv'ing etc. they model, someone concept sketches, it all starts with the writing. Do you think goin to forums and sort of recruiting artists would work? for example if someone needs a concept artist, finding them from the wip 2d forum... etc.

i do see what you mean about organizing, if it's intimidating to try to jump into a project. ON the shirow thread i believe they're getting around that by creating a synopsis to serve as a jump on point for new people, summarizing what's done and what needs to be done, and as i've suggested before an excel sheet with milestone tracking and hotlinking is the easiest way to record progress.

thx for the feedback.

a lot of this i think would depend on the students' resources. If they have decent enough machines and are able to afford the programs, then it's a great idea. If not you guys will probably have to either buy additional seats (licenses) for your programs or find a way to be as efficient as possible. you should go for it tho.

School networking is easy. i'd only warn you that i've known of people who go to college and use school networks to hack other people's computers with ease. so be careful

Here is what is being worked on by me right now.
I also have the eyelashes and eyebrows in place.
All that remains is her hair.
I still need to tone down the splotchyness but she is intended to be a bit pale.

The only image maps in this render are for the eyes.
I chose to use procedural maps combined with weightmaps becouse this means that there wont be any maps size issues.
Longer to set up but easier with file management and all.

Hi all...

Ok for those of you who want to join, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner...(computer issues-no data lost though! Yay!)

Anyways, right now, our primary need is strong concept artists and modelers as MK said.

There is a list on the first page of things to concept/build, and much of that is still up for grabs.

We do have a full site in the works, and while it is almost 100% done, we are holding off on going public with it right now.

If you see something on that list that you'd like to concept out, send me a PM and let me know what you want to work on (so that everyone doesn't end up on the same thing).

Always glad to see new faces... welcome to the project.

I expect there will be a fair bit of progress this summer. I will definitely be more available.

Its loosely based on Ichiro Suzuki who playes for the seatle mariners.

A costume designer

And people in general who ROCK at what they do and think we need them more then anything in the world.

this looks awesome, so you guys are really putting this together, looks sweet, i wanna join as a modeler, just give me somnething to model, and also who is apart of the team, modelers concept artists, and so on, and after you guys get everything done, i think u guys should break it down into storyboards, and model scane by scane, instend of modeling everything, a good idea would be if we get a final script, to be handed out to the team, and after everyone reads it break it down into scanes, and storyboards, so everyone gets a concept of the camera angal, lighting, and whats going to be needed in the scane. so everyone can get organized, cuz i've seen so many projects like this fall apart cuz people try to attack it as a whole, and people just got borded and left, i really want this to be a success, i'm not trying to tell you guys what to do, just my opinions, i mean no offense if i offeneded someone i'm sorry, i just think this can be done, and if completed, so SWWEEEETTT, everyone can add to their portfiolios, this would turn out soooooo SWEEEET if everyone pulled together and got their parts done. Thank you for those tips and your enthusiasm.
We are very much intrested in a new modeler on the team and we would love to see some examples of your work.

I saw the concept for the recon/scout ship, and decided to take a crack at it, only 1 1/2 hrs work, nothing really just the simmple outline, which was extreamly hard, due to the missing front view, tell me what u guys think, i'm planning on modeling the cockpit and make it lower down for the character to climb in, still alot of work needed, but for now before i go any further with it tell me what ya think

Yasko looks good so far.
I hope you add a bunch of extra detail aswell.
Poly-count should be reasonable but you can for sure go way overboard from
what you did here.

well that was just the test attemp, i didn't know how far i could go on the poly count, but for now i'll juice up the model, and get to some real work, ie detailed cockpit, hydralics, machanics, and so forth, i'll post up an image now and then, one ?, does anyone have a script, or an general aspect of the opening scane, cuz right now i'm just blank, i'm really excited to know the story, thx

Hey boob :) (love the name btw heheheh)

Whelp, apparently I'm gonna be doing the dropship, and the sequence for the teaser, or whatever it is. Look in from time to time - this is a DIFFICULT ship to make, VERY organic.

Yes the website is is getting a revamp.
And Since we have a couple new team members we will have a team
meeting soon to explain what we are up to and what the goals are.

Hello all,

Ok, we're getting more people involved now, and that's fantastic!

Because of the numerous new people sending me PMs and messages, I'd like to ask that everybody 'sound off' by sending an email to aje@thegabrielstrain.com (aje@thegabrielstrain.com) with the following info:

1)CGTalk name
2)Real Name
3)Your 3D Software (please be advised that this project uses Lightwave and Maya primarily)
4)What you wish to do on the project
5)A working link to samples of your work (do not email the samples, the link will be fine. If you don't have anything online, tell me and we'll arrange another way for us to see your porfolio)
6)the country that you're in (so we know for communication purposes)
7)how much time can you devote each week to the project

Background anti-aircraft gun placement particle setup:

Hey guys, setting up the dropship fly in sequence as it approches it's LZ anti-aircraft guns can be seen in view trying to take out fighters which are swarming over the area :) Just thought I would give you guys a little preview. Obviously I need to fix materials, glows and such - but it's a start!

admiraligor - Looking good mate I see where your trying to go with that. Cant wait to see how that turns out with a little comp work put into it :).

AJE: Nice start on the tank and pre-viz shot. I was wondering how in the heck that thing was holding itself up until I say the "Anti Gravity Drive" :scream: . To drive that point home will it emit some type of light/energy source underneath?

i haven't been able to do much work on the scout ship, but i'm currently doing concept art, storyboarding, as well as acting in a movie called FAYT, its taken most of my time, but as soo as i get a chance i'll update my model, oh by the way do we have a updated roll of people on this project, and can someone get a hard script out please, because i'm running blind, as well as some other people i'm guessing. Later guys

Dear Yasko.. as rude as it sounds

Every one knows his task.
And once that task is done a new one will pop up.

The story outline can be found on page one and we don't need a script just yet since we don't even have the props done yet.
This project does seem to move a bit slow but AJE and me are busy doing our day jobs aswell.
Perhaps a status from everyone would be nice.

Cheers

hey everyone
well looks like u guys r doing well
shame i dont have more time to help

something about the legs strikes me as odd
they seem to be a little out of the technology range
they can float in the air but have trouble with recoil
u dont have to listen to me if u dont want
just an opinion
maybe i short jet burst when firing would make more sense
also it seems that the legs would make it loose balance
maybe it should have a counter weight on the front
hope im of any help

Good day,

now that maya is with max i may suggest you employ the use of max in your project because i see a very good story but you will be limiting some posibilities with the restriction of sofwares like max.

basically i'd like to come in but you've practically flushed me off the track

can i still b a team? i'm an african to b precise a nigerian, anything for me?

admiraligor
10-08-2005, 10:35 PM
max's restritions are no more nor less than any other software package out there. It is COMPLETELY able to be used for ANYTHING givin you have the right knowlegde. Max's UVW system is very nice, just takes getting used to. Just like Lightwave's or Mayas. So Stop being so god damned close minded!

AJE

waydorr,

Thanks for your interest, please read below...

admiraligor,

I think you misunderstand me...

It's not that we don't think Max can deliver great results, I personally think it can.

There are factors within this project that have not been made public that suggest bringing Max into the pipeline isn't necessary/wouldn't be a benefit at this time.

We're not being close minded, in fact quite the opposite. We have the benefit of the broader picture.

Besides that, you've come to a project development thread, started by guys who work professionally in LW and Maya. One of the reasons that this project is a LW/Maya one is that our professional work (meaning our support lines outside of the project) allows us better access to professional people that we know and trust.

I don't mean to offend, but would you consider dropping Max and learning Maya or LW? Of course not. I understand that there are many talented Max artists out there, and I don't think it's "snobbish" to say that we don't have a place for them beyond concept art at this time.

One of the reasons for this project is for us to learn our chosen apps better in a fun creative environment.

Max is a good program, but like I say, there are reasons beyond what I've stated for our decisions, and we stand by them.

I'm not interested in a app flame war in my thread... this response isn't a "LW and Maya are better" type of thing...

I'm sorry if that means your participation will be limited, but the decison was made for many reasons.

Cheers,
AJE

You know what? i've said this before, i really love your work and don't mind being a lilttle part of it.

"All is not lost, we are not dead. Time is not a constant as we once believed. It can fluctuate according to perception, specifically when it comes to work, desires... life. Priorities can reshape time, never adding or taking from the whole. In the end the ramblings of an overworked or underworked man will drive toward focus, and in that focus while others will cry foul, a legend will be born."

Resurrection implies death.:D
I have no intention of abandoning this project, even if it takes me a lifetime. Still, even after many months of hibernation, it picks away at the back of my mind. Hopefully it will find its place at the front soon.:bounce:
