View Full Version : Monitor Color Loosing
Pretorian 03-04-2005, 02:45 PM I guess my monitor lost the red color because it's blue/green now, so, I guess the red is gone.
Can this really hapend? If yes, can I fix this by myself?
Thanks

Try messing with the graphic card controls.
Btw you could always put a red translucent film on your monitor and for extra redness wear some red shades :-)

attach the monitor to another system (desktop or laptop) and see if it works. if it does, then it's a video card problem. if it doesn't work on the other system, then it's the monitor. replace it with a new monitor. crt monitors are very cheap these days. either that or buy yourself a new lcd monitor. to get that monitor fix wouldn't be worth it.

try adjusting the amount of r/g/b using your monitor settings. the vast majority of monitors allow you to do that. you can as well overrdide those values using software such as RivaTuner which gives a lot of control over that. probably it all won't help you much if it's a serious hardware related issue, but you might give it a try anyway.

I already tested it in two diferent systems and I still have the problem, so seems it's a monitor problem.
Maybe a red translucent film will solve the problem :) for now, like PixelVampire said.
I asked just to know if I can fix this alone, byt no taking a someone because I think it's not worth, like danhua76 said. But, if it was easy to fix by myself, why not trying?
Dirty: will this not "forcing" the monitor?
Thanks

btw, there is one last thing you can try. get another monitor vga cable. it could be that after years of pluging and unplugin the cable, the pins could've gotten loose. there are specific pins in the vga connector that are assigned the rgb signals. if any of these pins are slightly damaged, it will cause color problems. so before you go out to get a new monitor, try replacing the vga cable first and see if that fixes your problem.

I had an old monitor where the red went out. If I would hit the monitor it would come back then it would go out again. Its time to buy a new monitor my friend.

danhua76: I don't believe that the problem is on the cable or in the connector, because if I leave the monitor off for a while and then turn it on, it got's with all colors, after some time it looses the red color, and that hapend in both computers I tried using this monitor. I can't think in buying a new monitor because this one isn't so old, it has 2 years, can't believe that a 2 years old monitor will be this way, will it?
peanuckle: maybe you're right :) . I would try to fix this, if fix would be an easier thing. As I see, it's not something so easy. If there isn't an option for me, I guess I will have to buy a new one.
Thanks

ok, so if after leaving the monitor off and then turning it on, the display goes from good to bad, then it is a problem with the monitor. this is a problem that is probably directly related to the crt tube itself. this is where you start looking at ad's for monitor deals. :)

Yeah, after leaving the monitor turned off, and then turning it on, it looks ok with all colors, but after some time it looses the red color. I agree with you, maybe it's a problem on the CRT tube.
So, should I really start looking at monitors ad's :) ? There is not option for me :), else buying a new one?
Thanks

sometimes it's just better to buy a product and get on with what you need to do. you won't go through the headache of trouble shooting the monitor, the stress of being pressured to get it fixed so that you can do your work, and the wasted time doing all this un-neccessary stuff.
crt monitors and lcd displays are quite cheap. go to www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) to see some prices. that's where most people on this forum goes to for computer hardware.

After your last post, I started looking for monitors prices :) . Maybe the best option will be buying a new one, I just thought if I could stay with it to not spend money now.
Wich 17" monitor do you recommend? I was thinking in a CRT monitor, because of the flexibility to control the colors.
Wich one do you have?
Thanks

samsung, nec, sony, and viewsonic are a few good brands for crt monitors. you might want to look into getting a 19" monitor instead of a 17" one since the price difference is not that much.
upgrading to lcd's are nicer, but a bit more expensive too.

i've moved away from crt monitors. i now use lcd's. mine's a dell 20.1" widescreen lcd.
viewsonic lcd monitors are good. most people like them. do a search on this forum for more information on good crt monitors. i' sure you will find plenty of info.

If you want a good CRT I personally love NEC monitors. I personally just bought a new LCD for myself. Dell has some really cheap ones that are good for the money. If you have to worry about color correctness then go with a CRT. If you dont really a perfect color range then go with an LCD they are a little easier on your eyes and a lot lighter.

It sounds like the red electron gun is malfunctioning. Yeah, a new monitor. I'd also recommend buying a 19". Samsung, for instance, if you can find one in the NF series. For NEC/Mitsubishi look at the ones with DiamondTron screen.
