Why maya is a first choice in movies & not max!
many 3danimated films used maya i have never heard of any movies in which max is use extensively to produce!
with the new max5 is there there any possibility!

Sure why not? When I worked in max I built things for the movie Dungeons and Dragons that I believe turned out well. Not a great movie but I think the work at Digital Firepower was well done. And it was totally max. Max just needs some more high profile movies to claim work in. Otherwise its just a tool. Quality depends on artistry. I prefer Maya and so do many of the larger shops who get the big jobs at the moment so..........Where is this leading ? bla bla bla

i saw a little intro on max5, and i'm not sure if Maya has it.... (maybe it does, but haven't figured it out yet, and i am too lazy to start maya right now and figure it out)

Does maya have interactive dynamics ?
Example, you made a brick wall and youre having a demolition ball ramming the whole thing... can you (while playing the animation) grab the ball and just play around with it , while it can still bounce off the brick wall ?

This thread is very challenged for "having a point" isnt it?

THe FAQ's ladies and gentlemen:

Your 3D application whatever it may be is the tool. Learn the tool. Hell learn 3 or four of them, but more importantly practice and learn your art.

yeah i also feel that artist drive the tools & not tools drive the artist.. but as far aas modelling, texturing , lightning & animation is is considered.. both the package have same tools.

excpet the fluid, fur & paint effects in maya
thks

Biggest reason that Maya has Max beat in motion picture production is how extensible it is without writing plug-ins!

MAXscript doesn't give you the kind of flexibility that MEL does, so many kinds of customization has to come on the plug-in front. Maya's a lot more open to extension (as is XSI.)

This thread will be closed soon... I have a feeling. As a former max user and a maya user I can state the main reason as being workflow pipelines. Maya is easier to throw into a big pipeline.

yes, and the reason that it's easier to fit into more complex pipelines is... customization.

However, note that I'm not saying Maya's an overall better package than Max, as my familiarity with Max is so cursory that I couldn't even offer a reasonable comparison. Just that Maya and XSI are both unusually wide-open to customization compared to any other graphics software i've ever used, and I have seen enough of MAXscript to know that it's not a comprehensive scripting solution for all aspects of the package...

I still use both of those software, Max for fast modeling while Maya for animation, dynamic & scripting :)

None of you know what you are talking about, the best 3D Package is POV Ray . . . came out in the late 80's / early 90's. Absolute best package ever, has Maya and Max and XSI beat to a pulp.

In case you cant tell, im being sarcastic :) . Every app has their strengths and weaknesses, its how you use it. I suppose the strengths of Maya or XSI lend better to the production pipelines of the larger studios.
