View Full Version : Annoying M-menu in 9.1
Renderwise 03-04-2005, 02:18 PM I used to have the M-key as a command for the Magnify Tool in R8.5. When I try to assign the same key in 9.1 a menu shows up(see screenshot), but not the Magnify Tool. Does this menu show all tools that have the M-key assigned as standard? How do I get rid off this annoying menu and make M working for the Magnify Tool only?
And what does it mean in the command manager when a tilde mark is placed between two letters? For example, Remove N-Gons have U˜E in the command manager.
Any suggestions?:banghead:

That is how you assign a shortcut to the new shortcut menus such as the M one you are seeing. Haven't got access to Cinema at the moment and can't remember if there is a special command for these menus, check the manual, if not maybe deleting all shortcuts refering to M~ will remove it. You might want to backup your preferences first. HTH

Hold M then press P to get stitch and sew for example. With U and M you get a handy list of shortcuts Yet I can understand that once a habit is created it is difficult to change it.

It took me a while before I finally figured out what that was as well.... It's a 2 key short cut. Pressing U will bring up a menu, not unlike the one you posted a screenshot of, and then pressing E will activate the Remove N-Gons tool. You can select it from the menu after hitting U as well, if you'd like, though I seem to have less success with that (I blame the wacom tablet's shakiness). Bottom line, though, if you press U and then E, you'll end up with the Remove N-Gons tool.
Hope this helps...

to get rid of the menu you would have to unassign every shortcut in it from the "M~whatever" shortcut they currently have.

I think it is worth changing the work -flow to the new shortcuts. Just because you now can have more, waaaayyyy more shortcuts if you want. While modelling I don´t really use a manu anymore. I´m only hitting the double-short cuts and the normal ones, like e, r, t and d. For understanding, don´t press the two keys the same time, like ctrl+v for paste, press them one after the other. Otherwise You wouldn´t be able to untriangulate with u~u

yeah the flaw is in removing those shortcut systems already made. Its not like removing the prefs can do it for you, so unfortunately it is a very time consuming task to remove all shortcuts using M. I'll mention this to maxon.

A quicker way of doing this is to open c4d_shortcuts.res in Word, go to Find and Replace, and enter "M"~"*"? into the Find field (include the quotation marks and make sure there's no space at the end). Leave the Replace field blank and click Replace All. This should leave four blank commands: PLUGIN_CMD_1007573, PLUGIN_CMD_450000000, PLUGIN_CMD_450000001 and PLUGIN_CMD_450000002. Delete these, being sure to include all spaces and paragraph marks in the highlighted selection (the relevant commands will still appear in the Command Manager, where new shortcuts can be assigned). Then save and you’re done.
Of course, it’s a good idea to make a backup of c4d_shortcuts.res first.

Thanks all you guys for your replies. It would be very handy to have a "delete selected commands" option in the command manager.
