I guess mentioning what software you using would help. If u usin max, yeah drag holding shift would do it..in maya, if I can remember, think you'll have to right click on the time linfe or something like that, havent used it for a while.

Hey Leeloo,
Well it works the way you said.
Shift - Click on the key, make sure it turns red. Now, right click>copy.
Then if you cant simply paste by right clicking, try shift-click by selecting the frame, then right-click>paste. Hope it works....

you can try doing it in the Dope sheet. I had the same problem awhile ago. I have started using the dope sheet and graph editor for all my editing. And i have no problem going through there.

This is infuriating!! It won't copy! It puts a key frame in but its not a copy of frame 1. Ok... when I am trying to copy keyframes I am selecting the entire character..... do I need to select the individual parts?

Yeah, I would select all the parts individually and copy the keyframes one by one. The only way I've been able to copy all of them at once is to have a character set with all the controls in it, and to make sure there is a key for every control on the frame I'm copying. It seems to work ok that way.

ok... I've managed to get it to copy by selecting the parts one by one... as you said! Is there not a Multi selection mode or something similar? I used to use Softimage a long time ago!

Don't ever use the timeslider to edit your animation. You never know what you are editing if you do.Use the graph editor. There you will find copy and paste options in the edit menu. They have help images to show you what the different options do.

have you tried to select all your objects and then in graph editor select all the attributes you're interested in and then just copy the portions of the animation-curves in the window\ you want.

Hey Guys,
When i copy and paste a key somewher else in the timeline, it makes a real bad curve on that pasted key... whats the solution for that ???

I don't know the solution for it, but i usually just go in to the graph editor and fix it after. It would be nice to know. Are you just clicking on the key and copying or are you using the dope sheet or something?

Its really a pain Horns, to go to Graph and fix the curves eveytime you paste the keys. Isint it ??
Am copying the keys on timeline !!

There's an easy way to copy poses in the timeline. If you select a frame (just left click, no need to shift-click) then middle-mouse drag to the frame you want to paste and hit the "S" key. This copies attribute values, not keys, which means it doesn't matter if you have a key on the frame you are copying from. As far as I know it only works for single keys. I haven't tried selecting a range of keys with shift-select so I can't say that would work. Anyways, I use this technique some times to throw in a quick slow in key by selecting a frame or two before the pose and dragging it back so that it takes longer to get there. Or use it to copy keys for a cycle. Sometimes, I'm working away and I realize that I accidentally started posing my character while still on the frame for the previous pose. I don't want to go to the right frame or I'll lose my pose and I don't want to set a pose because it will overwrite the one that's supposed to be there. So I can just drag over to the frame it should be on and key it there. Then when I scrub both keys will remain and be in the right spot.
