Hi, i'm making a night time city and i was wondering how to make light reflections on the street from light street lights, and other reflections on from shop lights and stuff.

I know you have to do a light map but i don't know how. At first i though you have to cut the additional polys and make another texture file, with you procedural texture reflecting light, and UWV unvrap it on some polys. but that seems like not the right way, a friend told me that you have to make the whole scene a single object, set up your lights, and then "Render to texture" it,then with some options on, you get what you want, but i dont know the details, i'm clueless...

Thanks for the help

prelighting uses Vertex colors which is not the same as lightmaps. This question is version software specific...so better to ask this question in a max or maya forum.

basically u will want to create a second UV set of your object....bake your lighting (that is what a lightmap is) into a texture map....create a layered texture and assign your lightmap UVs and lightmap texture to the layered texture. Your color map would then be underneath the lightmap....using the original UVs
