We'll probably change his name soon, as everyone has started calling him 'Big Gay AL'
I'll try and post up a pic of the final model when it's done.

Final game model as a reference. That was so much fun to make! I spent most of the night finishing it off. I suppose we all have to make a few big clunky robots in our lifetime:)

Renamed to 'SAMS-1' (Samson) . Hopefully no-one will call him 'Big Gay Samson' :)
Very nice translation from 2D to 3D. I like the toy-like appearance of the render. This and the previous robot remind me of those Japanese battery operated robots that would open up their chest plates to reveal clear-red lazer guns with spark action!
That's a mouthful ... but it's a good thing. You did this all in a day? Whoa!

I know! I'd love to get toys made of them someday - I think that would be the ultimate - a toy from something I sketched!

Not quite - I'm generally a pretty slow artist in fact. When I posted the sketch, I'd already spent a day working on the modelling. Then I spent all yesterday and quite a bit of last night finishing the model and doing the texturing - it was one of those times when you just get so into your work and don't want to stop! I'll pay for it today and probably work at a snails pace because I'm so knackered though...

That's really fun! I love the character design and the implementation, and I like the boxes he's with, too. It feels to me like the style of texturing on the robot doesn't quite match the rendereing style on the boxes (or vise versa.) He's got a heavy dose of black lines adding to his carttony feel, while the boxes don't, and are treated more realistically. I don't think one is better than the other, but they feel like they could match better. All said, though, this is really cool!

I think the textures are a little too bright in the second picture but the toy feeling is definitely given off by the render. Overall I think it looks nice ;)
