This started life as a colored pencil drawing and now I'm just beginning to work on it in photoshop.
Unless I can turn this guy into an a@%kicker by Oct. 15, he's going to be bacon.
Any crits on technique or concept are welcome:wip: :wip:

Here's a detail of the face....also, I forgot to mention that the background hasn't even been started. It won't remain the sloppy mess that it is. Thanks:beer:

You didn't really mention if you're a Poo or Concept guy. I'm cheering for the Poos ... so if you're a Concept guy he's perfect! Don't change a thing. heheheh.

But if you're building for Poo ... your "bacon" doesn't look very intimidating and from what I've seen of the entries so far, this little piggy is going to go "weee weee wee" all the way home. Here's my best suggestions:

1. Size - How big is this pig? Right now he looks about the size of a poodle. Add some elements to his armor or environment that give a sense of scale. Comparing it to the others ... I'd say make it elephant sized or larger.

2. Intensity - It needs more determination and gusto in his stance. Crouch him down to the ground and make it look like he's ready to pounce and kick some ass. Arch up his back and stand all those hairs on his back straight up (maybe even add some serious looking spikes to the ridge of the armor). Change the expression on his face so it's more rabid looking. A bit of drool or blood dripping from the mouth wouldn't hurt. And most importantly ... the eyes can communicate the most rage. Use it to your advantage.

3. Weapons - Any challenger with a rocket launcher is going to put this beast back in the pig pen. Add some offensive weaponry and maybe thicken up the armor plating some more. maybe a good old fashioned mortar launcher on his back? Rail gun? ICBM with a kamakasee detonate button? In a pinch ... maybe it could rely on some razor saw blades welded to it's tusks?

Illustration-wize, it's a good start. But in the competition ... he's toast. Hope that helps some.

I haven't been to EatPoo in a while, I should go check out what they're up to.

LOL, Kirt!
Thanks for the thorough crit. I haven't declared loyalty to either side, more out of embarassment than anything else.

What Kirt said. I would take out some of those tusks and make the ones that are left more pronounced and fiercer looking. Also change the angle--right now it looks like piggy is chewing on a bunch of powder horns.

I think you're going to have a hard time evoking the physical power of this beasty without showing more muscle tone. Maybe include less armor plating so that more of the body can show through. Also, if the pig is really bad ass it's probably been through some tussles before, so make it dirtier and more banged up.

If you get the design going well, you can always put in more piggies too. Like a horde of evil swine attacking.

He looks very weak in the knees if you ask me. The stance is not agressive enough, it looks like "Bacon" is almost jumping up in the air from being frightened by a mouse, or a snail. j/k
Toughen him up by dropping his head down more. Give him a "bulldog" stance, that would work.

I think the idea of the tusks is good. Dont make them come straight out in the same plane. Mix the angles up a little. Like / / - \ \ <-- this
Point them in toward each other, or outward \ \ - / / <--this.

Right now they come out of his mouth like a chinese fan.

Colored pencils are fun, but hard to change big directions on the fly.

hey.... what's a poo?

Well, since you asked ... Poo is soft squishy brown stuff. No, wait ... wrong definition. Here, this will probably be better, at least you can make up your own mind. Eat Poo.com (http://www.eatpoo.com)

The regulars there have been challenged by Concept Art.org (http://www.conceptart.org) to build post apocalyptic warriors to face off in a battle to the death on (I think this is right ...) Oct 15th. It's really a great idea for a challenge. I wish I had something I felt worthy to throw into the ring.

:hmm:

Thanks for all the crits...I'm going to do my best to give this little guy a major rehaul. I can't send him into the thunderdome as such a weakling...
