View Full Version : How to use GI Overide?
itsallgoode9 03-03-2005, 12:53 AM Is there somthing special you must activate to get the GI overide to work? I am assuming the use of these override functions is to set different settings for specific objects which are different than the ones set in the render globals. So i have checked the GI overide box and set the settings differently but I still see no difference when I rerender. What am I doing wrong.

I don't think I understand what you are trying to ask. I"m trying to overide the GI settings which I set in the render globals for one specific object because it needs a higher Photon Accuracy, and Radius to get the correct GI lighting, whereas the rest of the objects in the scene can use a much lower setting and look as they should.
Look in the shape node of your object and click on the mental ray tab. From there you can override GI and FG settings.

I know that. I'm saying I have tried doing that, but I have not seen any difference in the render. It doesn't seem like it's doing anything even though i've enabled the GI Override

Well I've never used those override functions, but if there is a situation in which the GI on an object is too strong or not strong enough, a photon shader usually lets you tweak it to a good level.

Try the ctrl_irradiance shader:
