well People use many different 3d modelling software. such as 3d studio max, Alias Maya
Softimage Xsi, Blender, Rino etc.
Rendering wise they use programs such as Mental Ray, Vray, Brazil, Maxwell that are either
intergrated with 3d software or purchased seperatly. But using in conjunction with the 3d software.
Many others for editing etc.

You should be more specific I think,
but it's best to look around on the forum here, take the time to do the research. It will pay of in the end! Trust me!
