I want to merge some verts, but only of 4 elements surrounded by a 15th. The four elements are a button dent on a panel. I want to make the four elements into one, so they are smooth. I still want a hard edge between the button dent and the main element. After merging the verts I should hav two elements.

The problem is I can't figure out how to select the verts for the four elements. I thought I could select the elements I want a selection for, then simply just switch to vertices mode. That doesn't work. Max remembers the last selection I had in each element...it doesn't convert between the modes. How do I say "convert selection to verticies"
I know there's probably just a button that I can't find, but I don't see it in the help file either.

Can someone tell me the dang button that I stupidly can't find?
thanks

Make your selection in one subobject made, and then ctrl+left click on whatever subobject made you need *with the button in the selection dropdown* (not the modifier list).

Ah, I didn't know max would act different when you control click a button.
Thanks for the quick reply, by the way.
I found another way too. you can find the 'convert to vertex' command in the customize menu and apply whatever you really want to it. So, I just applied it to Ctrl+Shft+V
I'm really running out of shortcut keys. It's hard to remember them all. Especially between Rhino, Max, Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator......the list goes on.
