View Full Version : Seam Problem
Norman 09-19-2002, 02:42 AM Hello Eveyrone.. I'm back and rendering again.. :)
Here's my dilema this time..
I have imported a Wavefront OBJ into C4, and I have textured it for "Test" rendering.. All looks well, but on ONE side of it there is this seem I can't get rid of, it's there even with the default textures.. Any suggestions?!
Thanks
Dave

can you post a wire frame?

hmmm check your normals, are they all aligned on the same side of the object? riht now it looks like the ones on the right side are reversed. this is known to happen from time to time when importing. Nendo was notorious for this.

This wouldn't surprise me at all since I was using lofted surfaces.. I will check that.. My computer ate itself (I think) last night.. so I gotta deal with that.. then I will for sure post a wireframe and play with the normals.
Thanks

Alrighty.. reading up on Normals, is there a quick and dirty way to see the normals.. And since I've never worried about normals before.. should I try to correct these in my "Modeller"
Thanks for the help guys

Okay just a quick update.. my normals seem to be okay.. hrmm.. Wonder what could still be causing this..

its not in the modeler that the issue will occur, its typically in either the export or the import stage, so the error will only be visible in C4D. to see the normals simpy activate polygon mode, and select the imported objects, the normals will be the yellow lines on any selected poly, select all of them and the right click and got to "align normals" and see if that fixes it.

Played around with these options a bit and found that "Optimize" got rid of 'em.. :)
thanks alot for all your help.

just out of curiosity, why didnt u just model this in cinema ?

I get this sort of seam when I build half of an object then copy and rotate it and connect the two halves. The problem is that along the joint there are two sets of points on top of each other. Optimize removes the extra points.

why not simply use the symmetry object and then make it editable, less steps
Say-G,
Norman's like me I think, spoiled in Rhino...
If you're used to NURBS, going to polygons is a wholly difficult process (at least for me)
Norman, I think the problem in your model isn't a Cinema problem. I think it's a NURBS issue in that your seam is probably not joined in Rhino before you set it to mesh.
You can correct the isssue in Cinema in a number of ways. What i would suggest you do is create a cross section and project the curve onto one of the construction planes in Rhino, then export that curve to .AI format, bringing that AI curve into Cinema4D.
Use LATHE NURBS in Cinema to get your object, this way you'll have a Native Cinema object with no seam :D
