View Full Version : Texture display/UV distortion problem
evantide 03-02-2005, 12:15 AM Making a wooden barrel with normal map. First I made cylinder, then uv maped it with cylindrical projection. Then I selected the midsection verts and scaled them out, to produce the old style rounded barrel shape. Problem: The texture is clearly distorting as seen in image. (It looks the same when rendered btw.)

I assume there is a simple solution that I am overlooking…?

i also have the same problem. perhaps, once the model has been uvw-unwrapped, it cannot be edited anymore, but I am not sure about this. anyone?????

You have to move the UV's in the Texture/UV editor, so that you don't get that distortion. For me it usually works better to UV-map when I'm done modelling. Just remap it with the cylindrical projection and you should be fine.

I have hard tome believing that.
The texture should be distortorting in a completly diffrent way. A way that would work for my purposes. The way it is distortorting defies all logic. it is distorting in 2 directions on a single plane, wtf?!? Its like Maya is assuming theres a triangle there and it should go ahead and use that as the basis for its distortion. I have a quadrangle, it should distort accordingly, no? This is driving me med. Altering the UV map will result in obvious time sucking texturing issues.
The texture needs to stretch according to my alteration of the geometry, why is it not doing that???

A nicer tone would be appreciated! Read the rules of posting!
A clue to your problem is: a quad consists of two triangles, hence the distortion.

Oh yes, my tone, thanks for the tip. Next month when I'm sleeping on a heating grate in a snow covered alley I will think that over. Thank you. Either you can help or not. Responding with a smart-ass riddle is not productive.

you sir are the smart ass for not being nice to someone who is trying to answer your question. And he is right. So how about you stop asking for help or get off the forum.

try triangulating your mesh. (if remapping it doesn't work)
