Very good job! Only thing I would change, make the tread rubber look less specular than the sidewall rubber, maybe a little coating of dust and stuff so they look like they've been on the ground at least once. Great first post!

Dude, As an avid watcher of F1 and a Schumacher fan to boot I have to say EXCELLENT work!!! I can't find much wrong with the model other than I need a 1600x1200 render of this for my desktop. Please oh please give me a link to this puppy in a larger res. The only thing I would add is the steering wheel stickin slightly over the front edge of the cockpit.
One other thing, the grooves on the tires are off. Just a minor tweak though. Here is an image,

I rate it 5 stars, but that could be because I love F1

Excellent work !!! I give you 4 out of 5 stars. You would've gotten 5 if it wasn't a Ferarri ;)

Your first car model ?!
I hate you :D That's amazing. What modeling / rendering program are you using?

Unbelievable!! I almost don't believe you saying it is your first carmodel, you must have been fooling around for some time to get this level of modelling... that's what my feelings tell me :)
GREAT car though :D:surprised
really really nice and precise model.
I liiiiike it :buttrock: , even if I'm not a F1 fan.
A render with a background image and motion blur and sparks and fire and sun and all that stuff that makes yuo happppy would be great

Thanks Guys !
I uploaded a new image ! Did some minor change :
Tire now looks different on the sidewall and in the groovs (more specular) than the tread rubber .
Also added a small windshield , can`t really see is that small , one more anntena , cutting and small bolts on the nose, some new textures . The front and rear wheels are identical size in the real life !
Lifted a steering wheel too ;)
As I said this is my first car modell ! But i have been fooling around some time now with 3D !
Im using 3DS Max 4.2 This image was renderd with Default Scanline Render .
Whats drive me crazy is the wheel rim material ! Wonder no one
complain aboute it ! It s suppose to be a silver paint not aluminum ! Im wasted a lot of time with it not much luck !
Any advice ???
As for references don`t really had any (big problem was me) only a couple picture what I got from ferrari`s web site :-(
Regards !

WOW! WOW! WOW!, thank you so much for the great pics. Now I will have to decide whic I would like for my desktop. I love the model, I think you did a great job as I have already said. Even Ferrari would proud.

That is truly some excellent work. I am very impressed with the shader/texturing and the modeling work is very good too!
Great job man, you've done this rig justice:buttrock:
What modeling technique did you use putting her together? Anyways, hope you make more!

Thank you everybody for the great words !
danny123 : Both front wheel has + and - 3 degree chamber I double checked !
JasonA : I`ve used meshsmooth for the body ,loft for the suspension and wings and lathe for the wheels !
And here is a wireframe !

Looks great! really nice work :) are you using GI in your renderings? After seeing the wireframe, my only crit might be that the main body could be made with less poly's but thats a rendering issue that only impacts you. From a spectator point of view (me), its still a damn beautiful model.
I'm definitely gonna have to try making a car at some point...

this makes me want to smoke
OMG :scream: :scream: Are you insane? You must be poly-junkie number 1 extreme .. shiat! That model is 10 times heavyer than it has to be .. but what the heck - if one likes to wait and watch progress-bars
Nice model btw. Would love to see an action shot .. like the one postet earlier in this thread.. that would be super-nice.

Hard to fault job indeed..... how many iterations of mesh smooth are you using on that wireframe??. Great rendering for the scanline too. :)
Cromimage
09-30-2002, 10:33 PM
As for the poly count yes I could do with less but i realy wanna do looks smooth in the close shots ! (the whole scene is ~260 000 polys :-)
JasonA : Only used two direct ligth on that scene no GI !
Dr-Spline : no I didn`t post this model before !
viz : No Im definitely not insane ! And no Im not like too watch progress bars ! its only took 2min to render in 1600x1200
on my machine AMD 1.33,730 MB ,Not too bad if you ask me:-)
xynaria : I had used 3 iterations on the body .I started with 2 but looked better with 3 ,so I cranked up one more !

Excellent car.
:)
The poly density is probably fine as it is meshsmooth and you probably work with different settings for display in the viewport and rendering. Can you post a wire pic of the mesh with meshsmooth level 0 or 1?

Dr-spline, I have looked at that car on the link you provided and I must say that the only resembelance is that they are both Ferrari's. Other than that they look nothing alike. Look at the model closely. The one in the link is an older Ferrari F1 car. See the straight lines as opposed to the curvier lines of Cromimage's version. They are similar in that they are both open wheel race cars but I don't see how you can say that it is almost exactly the same. Then again you may not watch F1 like I do. Hehe:thumbsup:

mabe its the textures that get me because they are the same. And just for the record i was not acusing you of stealing work. I do love ferrari's but not as much as some of you i guess :wip:

i can see where dr. spline was coming from, but the textures are not the same, and a main modeling difference that sticks out are the rods between the tires and the body. his are more of a flat plane than the rods found at the website
