Hi,

I want to know if there is a way to get a color image to show up through the translucence property of a material. Like you would see for a bat’s wing with the sun behind it…

So if I have a color texture like this:

And a translucence texture like this:

Can I get this result if I have a spotlight shining from behind?:

Instead of this, which is what I get by using a greyscale image in the translucence channel:

Any help much appreciated.

Use SSS in MR.

Thanks Jackdeth but I was hoping to avoid that. I have characters with lots of fur so I don't want to have to render them in MR.

Here is one way you could tint the translucence. Use a separate lambert shader that has full translucency turned up and other parameters at 0(ie diffuse is set to black), and make it the base layer of a layered texture node. Then put your colored translucency map in the top layer and set it to "multiply". Then plug the layered texture into the ambient or incandescence channel of your wing shader, and leave the translucency there at 0.

Thanks nojjy, I finally got around to trying this and it works great.

Many thanks :)
