Add more shade, pretended that there was a lamp on a table or something.

Looking good. Well, if you are trying to make a precise kopi, you have failed one major thing. He´s more in profile on the original picture. Look at the nose, on the original it´s lining up with the farest cheek. on your portrait, its not. If you are trying to portrait him less in profile, you´re doing good, because there are no perspective problems, as far as I can see.
About lightning....hmmm, I can´t point the problem out, you´ll have to experiment. Be carefull not to make the skintone to monocrome though. It makes it very digital, and removes the depth.

i am fiddling with some other stuff at the moment. No that is not the original pic but rather a reference...And thanks for the note on colour use.
