1. if I use distributed rendering for maya mental ray.SO if I send render scene by using
other host computers, does my PC windowsXP hangs (not responding) while waiting the results of rendered parts of the scene ?
-----simply,if I use rendering for host PCs.does my PC hangs on ? or will be good as batch processing ?

2.what is renderfarm ? is a hardware unit ? or something like as a computer that has own 40-50 CPU's works ?.

it takes 5-6 hours for a normal 10-15 second (with 20 fps )scene animation.

I saw in some documentary films that studios uses some machines that renders interactively. (I dont believe if it renders realtime... can any hardware ?)

is it really sense about render times for final renders between a gaming cards (like Geforce4) and a (for example) QuadroPro card ? or it senses some plus capabilities while designing in viewports ?

comments appricated:bowdown: ... thanks.. :D

many threads discuss your question or topics,

basically any computer can perform as renderfarm (bunch of computer connected via network cable) it can be 1 or two or more cpu or 1 or two or more rendernode(see boxxtech.com) all you need is a proc, ram, hardrive, and 8mb onboard vga

regards
hope that will help

We have always used Smedge (www.uberware.net) and it rocks...

Heh, smedge has it's issues. We've been using it for a while now and have come across some major issues with it:

1) You can't restart a single machine from a client, you can only "super" restart smedge across all servers.

2) No centralized server that all clients connect to. This leads to clients randomly dropping out for no apparent reason but still showing up in the availablity window. Manually restarting fixes this.

3) Sometimes when a certain client drops on the farm, it takes 5-6 others with it, manually restarting them fixes the issue.

Hopefully these issues wiill be fixed in 3.0 whenever that comes out, which god knows when that will be since he's been working on it for 2 years now.

Wow... we've experienced none of that... then again, our nodes haven't gone down more than a couple of times in the last several years, and never during a job. Wonder why your hardware is so unstable... you're not using BOXX stuff are you?

Anyway, guess I'll go knock wood..
