I just discovered Painter today and it beats the ass off Photoshop! Anyway, here's an image I made today while learning to use it (I made up the subject without any reference material).

Please critique. :)

Grrrr ... everytime someone mentions Painter I feel I'm missing out on something fantastic. I've gotta' save some pennies for that one.

He, that looks really good

Critiques? Not much...

Some tips maybe:
For a good well placing of the nose, mouth and chin, I usually draw a profile of the face, in perspective, on top of the center line of the face, and widen things from there (if that makes sense, my english fails a bit on me to explain this).

For lots of drama it gives good result to put in well defined hard shadows. Try to find some of those 1930's and 1940's black and white glamour photo's, you'll be amazed what you can do with lighting.
But maybe that is just a matter of taste ;)

Keep posting.

I hope you didn't draw in all those hairs one by one btw...

Thanks for the tips jeroentje, and I understand what you mean about placing the nose, mouth and chin.

You are :) . Painter's basically Photoshop, only the brushes act and work exactly like real life brushes, so you can literally do oil or acrylic style images on your computer without having to re-learn how to paint.

I hope you didn't draw in all those hairs one by one btw...

I did, it took about half and hour with the fine brush tool :D . Is there an easier way of doing it?

Yep...

Take one of the big hairy brushes (coarse hair or something) and set it to big. And I mean really big. Work from dark to light and what you showed us would have taken you 2 minutes...

There goes my little secret...

Cgkoko - Loan me a dollar? :D

Money is tight right now ... maybe next bonus check I get will pay for my Painter! It looks like a great program ... I love all those textures and smudgy paints that I've seen in other's Painter pics.

Funny you should say that, I just got through writing a tutorial on this image. I wrote it for 2D newbies like myself, but you might find it worth a look anyway. :)
